Fluid gathering

Unread post by KennyW »

Hi All,

I've noticed fluid gathering at the injectors on my Xantia so I removed it. It has appeared again.
3 injectors appear 'damp' at the base going into the head
Is it a small diesel leak :?:

I'll take a photo and post it.

I had the same thing with Cassy leaking SVO and pooling around the gearbox end injector, when the engine was hot it would bubble like oil in a frying pan :D

Apply those descriptive zones to a silhouette of Emmanuelle Béart, and we might agree!

I've checked the leak off pipes and it is not from there.

I suspect the copper seals which seals the injectors into the head as there are signs of fluid there. 3 out of the 4 injectors are showing signs of fluid possibly leaking from this point.

Any other thoughts except bacon :!:

Eggs, toast, fried tomatoes, mushrooms and hash browns :-D Kenny, seriously, I have noted that practically every HDi I've looked at shows little pools of oil around the injectors and I think you're right, the copper washers need replacing. Personally, unless it's looking very wet down there I then I'd not worry too much.

Mine has little pools and I'm not overly concerned about it...

I'd do beef, turkey or quorn bacon for you Addo, and make sure it's cooked up the other end of the engine to avoid contamination :)

Another possible cause for fluid around the injector bases is a leaking oil filler cap gasket and or cam cover gasket. I had the oil cap issue on mine, the gasket isn't available separately, it's a new cap only.

Good thinking :-D I had exactly this on mine and replaced it without a second thought as it was loose in the cam cover. The rubber seal went all gooey. New caps are very cheap - about six quid if I recall...
