Chris, you've lost the decimal point on your calculator. Hope you are sitting down....Chris570 wrote:My HDi cost me £1000 to buy 2 years ago, ive done 45k in it with an avergae of 50mpg resulting in 900litres of fuel used. @ todays pump prices £1260
A V6 would be about £600 with 45k done in that at lets say 30mpg (motorway only) would burn 1500 litres of fuel @ today''s pump prices £2010
the V6 would have cost me 600 litres of fuel more in that time and £750 more. That is assuming that the V6 would be doing 30mpg over the 45k (mine would average more like 27) and the HDi often exceeds 50mpg and is more often than not at 54mpg. Plus, i hate standing out in the cold filling up, the HDi makes more financial sense but if you do low mileage then i can see why a petrol would be less painful. Plus the torque of the diesel is excellent
[/my 2p]
45,000 miles at 45MPG = 1000 GALLONS of diesel = 4,540 litres. Or £6,356 at £1.40 / litre. 45k @ 30 MPG = 1500 gals = 6810 litres = £8853. Saving = a whisker under £2.5k.
I 'donate' the best part of £3.5k to HMG in fuel taxation each year - I don't want to give away another £2k by running petrols....

Good work Luke.
Is that a new Vel for the list?
I saw that ROI Vel Satis again at Ravensdale when I was getting diesel the other day.

Yup, I had never seen it before. Would have had a stroke if it was a 3.5 V6. Keep the eyes peeled! There'll be one lurking in Tandragee or similar!

Haha of course not Mark, 2.0 Petrol!
I agree, it's still a fresh looking car, feels a much better made car than the next generation, starting to get thin on the ground though

Especially since the Avantime is missing at the mo! Neighbours must think I'm mad.Citroenmad wrote:Wow, I bet your street cred is into zero figures now Luke, after all these old 'junkers'
Any idea whether a suspension spring off that Laguna Estate would fit a Laguna II or Mégane II?

Re: R9UKE's French Car Blog...
Alternator belt snapped on the Clio last night. But like a true soldier, it limped home with dim lights and the gearbox in some sort of safe mode - in which it didn't slip at all and was lovely to drive!
Anyone want any parts off a Laguna? It's off over the bridge tomorrow or Wednesday.

Re: R9UKE's French Car Blog...
I would, but I'm going to make a profit just from weighing it in anyway. Couldn't be bothered with the hassle of it sitting here while bits of it gradually leave. I'm not one for trying to squeeze every penny I can out of a scrap car... Yes, that's you Robert Smart.
I had an ad on gumtree for a while there that it was being broken but no response. Not many of them left, I suppose.
