Buggered my C5 2.0 HDI UP

Unread post by garrydog »

My car is a non runner and it is my stupid fault,PUTTING NASTY FUEL IN IT.Long story but i am trying to sort it out ,I have come to the conclusion with some help that i have some or all of my injectors blocked.I have empted and cleaned the fuel tank and the fillter below the pump,i have cleaned and renewed the fuel fillter and flushed all of the fuel lines from the tank to the fuel fillter. All the electronics and fuel presures are as they should be.
I have had a price from a guy to change the injectors of £650
Another outfit said that the high presure pump would be contaminated and would need to be changed at £780 just for the parts .

Now for my idea ,I can buy a full set of injectors from the scapper for £55 ,I can put these in and see if they get blocked if they don't then i will have my own cleaned at reasonable cost.I have changed injectors on Pugs 405 306 before,is there anything that i should know before i start this job.
The best way to get this type of injector out?
Where is the best place to buy the new seals ect that i may need. Any help would be great .
My car is Citroen C5 2.0L hdi 54 plate just over 30,000miles.
Thanks.

I believe that the injectors have to be matched to the ECU via Lexia in order to calibrate the system and make it work properly.

NO The injectors do not really need matching! Get a Pump for around £100 quid, and a set of injectors.. They are NOT hard to change at all!

The injectors are a push fit in place secured by a clamp with a single 13mm nut... AFTER the fuel pipes have been moved.

Engine fuel pumps do NOT need timing... Those prices from your mechanic seem rather excessive to me in a big way!

I say the injectors dont need matching from experiance! I took a Xsara HDi 90 engine at 103k, fitted a 110 inlet manifold and Turbo to it, and stuck it straight into a Xantia.... The ECU never said a word, and that was a 90 pump and injectors...

Car now on 272k and sounds well.... Ive also messed with injectors on my own 110 Xantia due to injector tick and never needed a Lexia to do anything...

As long as the Pump is from a 2.o 8v OR a 2.2 16v Early engine, it will be fine, and the injectors from a 110 8v too..

Injector matching is not essential to get a running engine, however the ECU does need to know what class of injectors are fitted for optimal performance and I suspect to make the onboard computer consumption correct.

The fuel was given to me ,it had been stored for a good while years, 10 galls. On removal from the tank with a small pump the fillter on the pump was full of a waxy substance this was also suspended in the fuel ,the fuel fillter in the tank was full of it so was the fuel fillter in the engine bay.

Oh gosh, when diesel goes off it really goes off  I've seen what stagnant diesel does to pumps where it's been hanging around them for years and it's not nice...

Basically it covers the surfaces in a hard varnish which can be very difficult to remove and deposits little bits all over the place as well as gumming things up...

This is a picture of a Bosh VP20 (as fitted to the 1.9TD engine) that had been standing a few years full of diesel:

This is the components of the lift pump. It looks like rust in the picture but isn't...

No wonder your injectors might have thrown in the towel! Hopefully the HP pump will BE Ok after some clean diesel has flushed through it. If new injectors gets the engine running then dose up the fuel in the tank with double or even triple strength diesel treatment - that'll help clean everything up...

Good luck!

A guy will clean and test my original injectors for £200 is this price OK?
