Unfortunately it happened in Bedfordshire, and any of their coppers with half a brain transfer to Thames Valley or the Met (according to literature from Bedfordshire Police).
Last time I had the pleasure of dealing with them due to a car accident was when workmen smashed the wing of my Megane while I slept after a night shift.
They claimed an artic from Spain did it doing a 3 point turn in the estate while asking for directions to the M1 from Leighton Buzzard.
So I phoned the police and reported it, was told I'd get a visit from a PC to give a statement although I did offer to pop down the station.
Days passed and had no contact so I phoned them and they sent me an incident report sheet.
Filled it out, stating that I was in bed at the time of the incident and my car was stationary, parked outside my house.
Then was sent a letter stating that I had to take my licence, insurance and MoT (not valid as it was a new car) to the police station of my choice otherwise I'd be in trouble.
So headed off to a very confused policeman behind the desk who took down my details and said he'd inform them he'd seen them.
Then I started recieving theatening letters from the police stating that they would start proceedings against me as I hadn't taken my documents to the police as requested.
It took 5 phone calls and several weeks of letters to get them to stop.
Then they turned around and said because so much time had passed they wouldn't try and track down the driver of the lorry.
Makes the £200 a year we were being charged for the police "service" so worth it
