xantia heater matrix pipe re fit

Hi All
Can i get any help with fitting the twin engine pipe into my new heater matrix, we have pushed very hard, it makes the O ring squash out ?

but we can get the pipe to lock in, its nearly my last job now !!!!
please help !!!!!!

Its been a couple years since I did it but I think I put the o rings on the pipe side then squeezed it on to the matrix. It doesn't work if you put the o-rings on the heater matrix. Be very careful not to break it its tricky

The only way I've managed to get them back on is to carefully locate the rubber rings on the ridge in the matrix then push the plastic pipes in, I found that smearing the surfaces in Vaseline helped it slide together.

I've tried it both ways and come down in favour of putting the rings on the pipe stubs. If one way doesn't work, try the other...

The secret, as Richard says above, is lots of Vaseline! Lube really does make it all slide much easier.

Also, use new O rings. (Part No. 6464 V1) old ones seem to swell a bit and are hard, in my experience, to re-use...

It's vital that the elbow goes home with a satisfying click...

I have put new O rings on and put some vaseline on it,maybe i should try more vaseline !!

is there any particular way to push that works best ?

With Juliet there was no way i could get the pipes to fit and click into place with the o-rings fitted, they'd seem to be home, but if I floored it they'd get blown off and I'd lose all my coolant.
So i tried without the o-rings, they clicked into place and I've never had a link.
However, that is with (possibly different) Berlingo pipes we had to fit as the original ones cracked.

I struggled initially, refitting mine. After 2-3 attempts, placed the new O-rings about 3mm from the end of the tapered connector (?), and it slid home with satisfying click. I used a bit of fairey liquid, rather than vaseline.

You may be OK as it is only a very small amount but the danger with detergents is foaming and airlocks forming.
Vaseline is reported to degrade rubber seals of course, as is any petroleum based lubricant.
Probably safest is neat antifreeze which is pretty slippery stuff and made to be there.

I found a trick is a bit of Fairy Liquid on the O rings, and place them on or near the ENDS of the pipes NOT in the matrix...

Ive also had no effects of bubbles either..

as said above have them at the tip of the tapered pipe ends and as they slide in as long as they are lubed they slide/roll back and seal in...

I have borroweed some silicone grease and will see how it goes later, fingers crossed !!!!
should i grease the matrix pipes too ???????
