That's not good...

Is this one of those wheels with pressure monitoring?

yes its a common problem on PSA cars, pressure sensor valves are METAL...salt on roads in winter means the simply corrode away. its just a plain stupid design flaw !

if its out of warranty dealer wants £60 for new valve and £60 for fitting !

i would just get it turned off, i've never had it and i don't see a great need for it, i think its a way for the dealers to make money, almost any car i've seen it on needed at least one valve at fair expense, it doesn't seem to be a reliable system on any car

Would you not fall foul of the MOT if this is going to be included and it did not work properly? If it was fitted as an OE standard, then turning it off or removing it would leave the car subject to a failure.

Is it possible to fit a normal Schrader valve in the rim, in place of this new fangled piece of junk? As I am a bit of a Luddite, I've not seen one of these valves close up to see what has been done to the rim to enable fitment.

Sometimes this "advancing" technology is just a sop to sad people that want a new gismo on their car, irrespective of its true value.

I am still trying to understand why they phased out manifold driven windscreen wipers. [-X [-X :dunno:

If you mean the pneumatic things they had on the old Vauxhall Cresta then no doubt it's because they were rubbish.

I think there was another thread about this very recently.

Thankfully this is not a problem earlier C5s seem to suffer with. Though it doesn't make me want tyre pressure monitors any more than I did

Not yet. My C5 went through with the MOT with the warning on the multi-function display showing.

I've since turned the option off with my Lexia so I think that might satisfy the future MOT.

If not, they can certainly be replaced with ordinary valves and providing the option is turned off there's every chance it'll pass the future MOT.

Apart from that these changes are rarely retrospective (I can only think of front seat belts in the sixties that were) so it'll only affect new cars, surely.
