How to Change the timing belt on a ES9J4 V6

As per the title but in video, although the sound is in French you'll get the idea.

Never been near one really, apart from small (spark plugs etc) service items.

Looks quite complicated although not as bad as I thought it would be, although I guess that's the case with most things.

Thanks for the link. Even though I'm only a "Saturday Mechanic" I enjoyed watching the clip.
Saved a copy of 480p version to my harddrive.

It is actually easier than that if you fit the later ES9 J4S tensioner assembly, no mucking about with bolts 'A' and 'B' and no Seem guage required.

Isn't French a lovely language. I wish I could speak it..

That's an excellent video.

Space is not an issue. I reckon there's more space to work on a V6 than there is on a 1.9TD...

On the right side of the You Tube screen, if you click on the link to "see all" under "uploads" there are several screen shots of Lexia in action, one of running a 2.1TD on a trolley :twisted: and a V6 with twin inlet manifolds, now that must be fun :D

Even with a translation from my Sister and family I will give it a miss. That is the job with engine sitting there. Jim; how long would it take you to do that job? AND could you keep your hands as clean as his ? :D

I know this don't make sense but that guy has a BBC French accent :shock:

If you ever feel the need Lexi, bring the car down to me :)

I'm planning to do a write-up on the job soon for the Citroenian, along with some other V6 jobs...

One useful thing about doing a V6 cambelt is the kids end up with a new skipping rope at the end of the job. The belt is positively massive :lol:

Excellent video, but the engine is on the bench. Also, I always found difficulty in releasing the crankshaft pulley on an automatic, as you can't just lock it in gear. With the GS and GSA's we had, I used to take the grille off, drive it half a mile down the road to have the crankshaft nut loosened at a friendly garage with a big air wrench (The nuts are 42mm hex, and were bloody tight) and then drive slowly home again. The GSA had a circlip to retain the crankshaft pulley, which the GS didn't.
Interesting that on the video he says that the change interval is 150,000 km- 94,000 miles -I played that bit through twice to make sure I had heard 'cinq cinquante mille kilometres' correctly.

You dont need a gear to lock it.... Put the twenty odd socket on the bolt head with a breaker bar.... Rest the breaker bar on the floor and flick the starter... They are RH thread so undo on the starter.... Easy effort no sweat at all...

Works everytime on an XUD and HDi when ive done it....

Looking forward to yur write up jim... Ill have mine to do one day...

Just a quick point... The Crank pulley centre bolt does not need removing on the V6. The pulley is bolted to a flange via four small bolts. It's just necessary to remove these and the pulley then comes off for access to the belt sprocket. An additional advantage is the timing setting hole is in the flange and is still "in-play" when the pulley is removed.
