Since April 2008...

Timing belt - 1K
Rear muffler - 400
Return pipes - 90
Regassing & LHM - 250
Pads and rotors - 220
Wheel repairs - 150
Balljoints and droplinks etc - 800

Carpet lugs - 30
Interior trim (misc) - 60
Thermostat - 60
Auto flush - 180
Steering pinion - 170
Seat repairs - 110
Coil pack - 360
CAS - 90
Starter bits - 65
Door repair - 500
Cruise bits - 550
Hydractive parts - 150
Foglight kit - 500
Extra horn - 60

Think that's about it, excluding petrol, tyres and other expected consumables like oil, filters, antifreeze and spark plugs.

£3853 in about two years eight months, with 75K kilometres to show for it.

in 7 years and 146,000 miles:

V reg HDI, bought 4 years old with 24,000 miles

Citroen specialists:
new spheres and other hyd. bits, bushes and drop links, £600
rear height corrector, cambelt service, flywheel and other pulleys etc, LHM, coolant, £1200
front brake discs, brake pads all round in one of those 2 jobs above, can't remember which

at Citroen main dealers (incl in Germany and France):
driver's side door mirror (electric), thermoswitch for radiator fans £150
hydraulic pump £5-600
alternator and aux belt £350

others:
Witter towbar £110, with Citroen wiring kit £60
4 windscreens (3 x insurance excess cost, 1 warranty) £200
mid and rear exhaust, separately £150
track rod ends or something like that, number plates
I know the OP said don't count the tyres, but ... 10 Michelin tyres and 1 road wheel

me:
3 headlamp bulbs, about 5 front sidelights, 2 rears
secondhand headlight
fix driver's seat height adjust
oil, oil/fuel/pollen filters, LHM, screenwash, etc
K & N air filter and its service kit
3 sets wiper blades
DAB radio adapter
battery (secondhand but fairly new from a friend's damaged Golf)

about £4000 without the tyres, or £4700 with, so about 3 pence a mile

at the moment, with almost all of the depreciation gone (from £4500 to about £500), and none of those big jobs above in the last 40,000 miles, it should be in the middle of its cheapest period to run

not counted in there, I've just bought secondhand tyres and a couple of wheels, as there seems to be a shortage of 205 60 15 tyres at the moment, especially Michelin but also other brands, and 2 of those will be on the car soon

OK, My 1994 L reg Xantia TD SX, Bought for 80 quid, passed every MOT for the last 5 years.

Work done? Pair front spheres.

Rear arm bearings.

cam belt/Water Pump.

All done by myself.

So all in all, 70k later... I can honestly say just that lot above.. plus tyres and fuel...

so £200 quid?? for 70k of motoring!!??

Who can complain at that!!?

70K on one cambelt and I was told by a certain popular mechanic that I would be pushin my luck at 50k. I read so0mewhwere that they should be changed every 30k on the xantia Mk2 maybe the mk1 belts last longer?

however it is surprizing to see how many cambelts are not changed during a five year period with quite a lot of milage.

I believe that the service period for the belt is 70K, however the factory fitted belts were found to snap before then so it was revised down to 50K, I presume that's for the first belt and subsiquent ones are 70K

ok - I can't resist this thread. I have a high mileage Xantia Estate which has had the following treatment since December 2005:

Timing Belt kit - £120
ABS sensor - £140
Airbag ECU - £270
More electrical wiring issues - £50
Front Discs and pads - £140
O/S Roll bar link - £50
Track Rod end - £69
Track Rod end and cv gaiter - £115
Tyres - £250
Pressure Regulator and Rear Ht Regulator - £200
Exhaust rear silencer - £130
Front pads - £60
More wiring - £60
Anti roll drop links £100
Rear discs and pads - £160

Total £2,891 (plus routine servicing for each year which adds another £500 making a Grand Total of £3,391.

Mileage over last 5 years: 40K

Pity I am not a mechanic as I could have saved a few pounds - still like the car and it has served us well. It is actually behaving itself at the moment and don't feel that it owes us anything.

HDi cam belt intervals are 100k

Snapping belts were a Petrol 16v engine problem NOT an XUD engine problem!! IIRC... Ive not heard of XUD belts failing at 70k anyway...

70k there fore on my belt is perfectly fine..
