On this subject, I'm really curious to know of any astronomical V6 mileages. Mine at 174K is in rude health and really shows little sign of it but then in reality, only the engine is that old. Practically the rest of the car has only done about 12K

I'm keen to know how many miles the engine will rack up before it starts to show it....

My new V6 is barely run in. 62K. 112K LESS than old V6

My Xantiae lowest mileage is on my s2 Xant v6 which got just past the 68k
mark, then locked itself out as you know and it hasn't worked since so count
the 174k level as a good return for your ownership Jim. The PRV 24v v6
in my Xm has reached 180+k miles mind.

I guess the XU9J4 is better built than the (early) XU's , I do recall early XU's (405 and 406 too) starting to show signs of oil burning around 120k ish, although its impossible to say if that was due to neglect / abuse really.

I'd expect to have to think about some rings around 200K though Jim, in honesty :) , but you never know.

Yep, I reckon that along with top end Andy. I can foresee valve stem oil seals and possibly hydraulic tappets too.. One of mine ticks a bit occasionally...

The ES9 is a beautifully built engine from what I've seen of it. One thing they do suffer from is oil leaks from the camboxes and sump plate due to having no gaskets as such; just silicone sealant. The engine is all-alloy with damp liners... Along with the XU5 and XUD/HDi I reckon it's one of PSAs finest engines although the little TU is a pretty strong contender for that title too...

I fully intend to find out what they're like at 200K. An if it all goes pear-shaped I have a spare engine under my bench and it's only done a modest 113K. It leaks like a sieve from the aforementioned places though...

In all my driving career I've not yet taken a car to 200K and I want to do this in Old V6. I saw my old 2.1TD pass 100K going past the Angel of the North. I'll never forget that and just hope Old V6 will pass 200K in an equally memorable place...

Paul, you have a duty now to put the biggest mileage possible on your TD

I can't play this game, no Xantia lives here :(

Though id like to know what is the LOWEST mileage diesel Xm around ...

Talking of turning numbers, my C5 is sat in the garage tonight with exactly 80000 miles. Thrilling!

Ive seen Xantia TDs with over 300K when we used to service a few Taxis. I was talking to a taxi driver who runs a fleet of HDi C5s, he retires them at 300-350K miles usually. Pretty good going.

Jim, what is the TU engine, i guess the 1.1 and 1.4i petrols?

Yes, they're the ones Chris. Debuted in 954, 1124 and 1360cc engines in the AX, BX and 205 in 1988 as 8V engines and lived on in the Saxo, Xsara, 106, 306 and 206 and evolved into a 16V 1597 engine for the Saxo VTR and so on and lives today but under a different model number but basically much the same engine.

It replaced the Simca "Suitcase" engine, the PSA XY series. That was a venerable old thing that began life in various small Simcas, the Visa and small Talbots. It was one of the only other engines, along wit the BMC Transverse "A" series to have the gearbox in the sump and sharing the same oil.

I had an R14 with a suitcase engine.
Ashamed to say that I never took much notice of the Visa engine, just drove it until it dropped.

Its nice to be able to engineer significant milage milestones with interesting locations, or special trips rather than reach 200,000 miles by driving into the carpark at Tesco's.

I managed to combine the 200,000 mile mark on my ressurected 1.9td Xantia, with a nice drive to North Yorksire for the wartime weekend at Pickering as I have reported in earlier posts.

The fact that the milestone was achieved at Stannington on the A1 was a bit mundane, with no real opportunity for the commemorative photo of the location and the mileometer.

I still haven't rewarded the Xant with a new heater matrix as a celebration, but I have invested in a new demister pad which I operate manually to see where I am going.

Thats my intention Jim,

Hence keeping her, and not passing her on yet, I STILL enjoy driving that particular one, the seat is still firm, though an upgrade to VSX Check type trim, the seat has not sunk, and so my lower back and legs do not suffer..

My original intenion was to get to a Quater of a mill, but things need dooing to her.. When I learn to do a good thin Viscoscesy (How do you spell that) of Bio DERV, then Ill enjoy putting more back on her, but I am dooing around 1k every 2 and a bit weeks I think..

I have seen a 1990 2.1 TD manual Xm in belfast with 22K miles on the clock a couple of months ago. Needless to say I want it!

A couple of years ago on european e-bay, I can't remember which country, there was a 2.5 TD Xm with something daft like 12Km on the clock! They were looking the price of a C6 for it though...

Thanks for clearing that up Jim, i did think it was those engines. But i didn't know they were in such high regard as to their build. In that case we have had a fair few TU engines, and apart from a HG failure they have always been very reliable, they go and go.

I think our 1007 will have a 16v derived version, with 110hp.

Robert, 22K miles, really? Did that look genuine?

I know there is a 1990 Xm TD in maroon in the CCC with a speedo saying around the same mileage, but its done plus 100K to that reading. Looking at the car you might think its genuine, very clean and tidy.

just ticked over 230,000 in my HDi - which I've owned and driven almost every day since buying it at 6 months old with 21k on the clock in early 2000. I won't be parting with it for at least another year but more and more things are starting to go wrong now... :(

My friend Rich bought a cheap Exclusive with 320,000 on the clock. The engine was fine but the rest of it had been abused and he eventually scrapped it.

What kind of repairs have you had to do in that mileage? Major ones ... Gearbox, Clutch, Head Gasket, Injectors etc?
