Regulator leaking from 12mm bleed screw

Unread post by Xaccers »

Cassy's regulator is leaking from the 12mm bleed screw.
Jim and I thought it was actually veg running down from the injectors due to a failed leak off pipe, and after cleaning the area it seemed to be sorted, but the leak is back, I'm using about 500ml of LHM every few weeks.

So what's likely to be the cause?
I remember yonks ago plenty of threads talking about hitting the ball with a brass punch, but can't remember why.

Xac, its highly likely that the seal on the bleed screw itself is shot, its like an 'o' ring, its easy to see once the screw is removed. should be cheep enough.

According to service pages data, the O-ring mentioned by Deanxm is diam. 6 TO 1.9 .
Don't loose the metal ball (diam. 7) as I did once

I didn't think brass was magnetic.

are you sure its not an internal leak alowing citro blood into the bleed valve area, as i always thought this just lets air out, and i would have thought the seal/O ring is just to stop dirt ingres and not a fluid seal,

Do you have the part number for it?

At nearly 14 years old, so far all the usual o-rings have needed replacing so I'll try that first.

the o ring does provide the seal, o rings seal the main components of the regulator itself and the FDV is sealed with o rings alone.
I wouldnt of thought that they take the pressure either but they do.

Replaced it today, remove the 12mm bolt, caught the ball and about 500ml of LHM.
The old o-ring was flat and rock hard, had to snap it to get it off, fitted the new one and put it all back together (remembering the ball).
Topped up the LHM so will see how it goes.
