Xantia 2.0HDi Plip problems (RF)

Once again my plip has gone Kaput.I swapped my previous Xantia one with a s/h unit but that was an IR version.Can we adopt similar reprogramming methods or is this a no go.Is it the dreaded main agents. Thanks for any news good or bad

I think you need a Lexia to reprogram the later (RF) units.

What does Kaput mean in this case? Can it not be fixed/repaired?

Until recently, I would have said it can programmed without a Lexia but there's now some doubt about this being true for unoriginal key/fob combinations.

The handbook tells how to re-synch a fob after replacing the battery, for instance.

Simply insert key and turn ignition so the immob light goes out (no need to start the engine) then push the button (then other buttons in turn) within 10 seconds IIRC. That should do it.

Kaput-Switch broken off complete with a bit of the PCB.I have attempted a repair which I thought was pretty good but It hasn't worked.I have successfully replaced these switches before with a fine soldering iron but sadly not on this one..Thanks for your answers.

MK1 IR types can be synched to the car just by pressing the button with the ignition on. MK2 RF types cannot - you need a Lexia to program the fobs to the car however MK2s also have an immobiliser chip in the key, and it might not be possible to re-program the chip to a new car if it has already been programmed (see thread about the C5 keys).

You don't need a Lexia to re-synch the RF remote fobs, though I don't know if that's true for the initial synchronising (ie a new fob)

As for programming a used key (chipped), I'm still unable to find any info on the process. I still believe you can and, given the chance, would like to test my theory.

I know that is true for the key's transponder and that remote fobs are programmed at the same time but...
The distinction I'm trying to make is, you don't need a Lexia to re-synch the original RF fob(s) (from a MK2 Xantia according to my handbook). This suggests, that new fobs or used fobs (not key transponders) might also be programmable without a lexia.

If it is possible to reprog a second hand remote to a xantia 2 i very much doubt it could be done without a Lexia & the transponder code.

Anyone got an unwanted MK2 Xantia key with remote?

I want to experiment.

I thought I'd intentionally make my remote lose coherence by operating it out of range several times but it still unlocked the car when back in range.

It IS Very possible to program a second 2nd hand plip to a S2 Xantia - but you DO need two things - Thats a Lexia, and the cars original KEY CODE.. not the replacment keys code.... the cars original..

Ive done this for a mate, however, not worked out how to get his "New" key to start the car, only unlock it...

How did you program the plip only? From my key programming experience, the key transponder is programmed first THEN the remote fob. A failure at the key transponder should halt the process, disallowing remote programming. Is there a "remote only" section?

Oooo cant remember off top of my head now... Id have to go into the menu's and look, there was a "Key LEarning" section, this was for the locking only though Im sure...

It was a while since I done it..

Did you put the working, original, key in the column lock and then do the lock button procedure on the spare?

I suppose when it asks for number of keys to be programed you could enter 0 but you would think it would suspect something not right & not let you continue ??
