Crankshaft bolt spacer

Unread post by MikeT »

I should have asked this when I was doing the job - the crankshaft bolt has a fat spacer/washer which, at least on my MKII, has a slightly larger hole than the bolt, meaning it doesn't sit perfectly central.

So the obvious query I have is, is this normal or should it be a perfect tight fit and will it make enough of a "balance" issue to be a concern?

Hi Mike

As long as you remembered to fit the spacer, you'll have no worries.
The crankshaft pulley is pretty heavy - the spacer isn't - so it won't cause problems.

I've visited a few TD cranks and never noticed it before this one, just thought it not normal. I'll scratch it off my shopping list, thanks.

Yes, absolutely normal Mike, as Ralph says...

It used to worry me...
