Never needed any extra heating with SVO.Napoleon wrote:@ Xac, from your posts here about SVO then, you'd say there was no need for one of these? ->>>
Just a bit of diesel when it's icy.

Sorry to hijack the thread a little, but reading the above with interest.
Have an R Reg Xantia TD, wondered if I can use SVO in it, and if so what percentage split would people recommend.
Also rather a numpty question, but how can I tell what/where the fuel pump is as noted a previous comment re Bosch and Lucas.
Costco is calling me
Thanks again..

1.9TD Xantias were fitted with Bosch pumps.
Start at 50/50 and work your way up.
After 500 miles or so, swap out your fuel filter, making a note of it's colour (golden/brown suggests a lot of gunk has been cleared out of the tank), change the filter again at the next 6000 service, and every 6000 service from then on.
Also pop the fuel sender out the tank under the rear seat (driver's side) and give the filter in there a good clean as it's going to be gunked up with 12 years of dirt/diesel loving algae.

Steve
Wouldn't want to wreck the pump either,so i'm just asking out of curiosity.

Absolutely. The ONLY engine that can run veg safely is the 1.9TD XUD with a Bosch pump.
ANYTHING else must not see any veg. Not even a 1.9TD if it has a Lucas pump.
Lucas pumps of all flavours (especially the 2.1TD EPIC) quickly die if run on anything other than DERV. I'm not even convinced there pumps are happy on biodiesel.
Anything common-rail is definitely out for veg.

i ran my last xantia on veg and the biggest improvement was to fit a lift pump because the veg can be a bit thick and fuel starvation is very possible, especially in the cold weather.
make sure the pump doesnt pump at too higher pressure though 3-6psi ideally.
also watch out for the fuel filter housing as they can leak air in causing all sorts of fun and games

if you buy the three litre bottles at tesco's it works out at around 85p per litre buy 1 litre bottles and it works out over a pound a litre.
I run filtetred WVO all the time but I do change my fuel filters every three months religeously.
my Dads Mk1 xantia came to a sudden stop the other day and need a breakdown truck to bring her home, the filter hadnt been changed for at least a year it was all gelled up. with no throttle response.
bought her a new filter drained out the filter housing, filled it with diesel magic injector cleaner replaced filter stuck the lid on started the engine went for a test drive all cleared out and back to normal.
added some rug to the tank to as he was running on straight filtered WVO.
5% thats 1.5 litres petrol to 20 litres of oil.
cheers Nigel.
