Actually you can take turbo out with engine in, done it on mine.

You just need to take top and bottom engine mounts off so you can move engine to make more room.

Late update, the turbo is pretty much off with the engine in situ. Only need to remove the oil return pipe & one more bolt, the access is tight but its do-able with the boost/turbo inlet pipes/turbo heatshield removed. I actually ran out of light/time so had to call it a day or it would have been off.

Engine mounts will probably need to be removed & engine tilted or pull the o/s shaft out, not sure which way is easiest yet need to look.

The manifold gasket should be fairly easy to do with the blower off.

Excellent :D Brigsy, you're on the cusp of answering the Activa equivalent to the question of life, the universe and everything :)

We Activa owners thank you for that. Maybe it'll come down to a 42 step guide on doing the job...

So I had turbo/manifold off last weekend, fairly easy job.

Here's somekind of list what to do:

- Jack the car up (or lift it  )

- Remove boost pipe that goes over exhaust manifold

- Remove oil and water pipes from turbo and move them aside (you can "force" them to move without doing damage)

- Remove cambelt side engine mount (the one that keeps engine from moving, not the one that keeps it up)

- Remove heatshield from manifold

- Crawl under the car

- Take exhaust off (not entirely)

- Take oil and water pipes off if you couldn't get them from above

- Remove bottom engine mount

- Remove turbo from manifold

- Unscrew manifolds bolts

- Go back to engine bay

- Unscrew manifold bolts if some left

- Take exhaust manifold off and take it out of engine bay

- Same for turbo

There's plenty of room once you remove engine mounts, so that's why I suggest it.

I might take some pics from my car, but im not gonna take turbo off again ;)

Didn't use dictionary so there might be some false english :P

yours is fine, the heater matrix has been done, probably quicker to swap a manifold gasket out than it is to do a matrix

I'd love to know how you guys removed the heat shield! I've managed to move it back so i can get access to the manifold but not actually remove it, without jacking the engine up so high that a pipe may break. Convinced it can come off once the turbo is split from the manifold, and i will modify it so it fits back easier! I just cant get the engine to tilt forward more than an inch with the above mounts removed.

How about the lowest one behind engine? It should give some more room to tilt engine.

It needed some forcing before that heat shield came off, but it's doable :P
