Free supply of WVO means life is a lot better for you :)

wish i could get free WVO and convert my car as i have enough space in the garage for a decent setup now :(
Yes that's true - I'd forgotten that you can't fettle with the settings on the EPIC pump.

The biggest issue is going to be wiring in the glow plugs really. I'm going to get a set of clocks from a 2.1 in a scrappy near me, then I'll compare the wiring inputs and what not to see whether the 2.1 clocks will plug in in place of the CT clocks and just work, it's highly unlikely but you never know!

I've asked on the 306 forum and the chaps over there use the 1.9TD 306 loom and just plug the 2.1 glow plugs into that, as I thought they might.

So that's no help then going from a petrol to diesel!

As you have a ready supply of Veg Dom I see where you're coming from now... And yes, the EPIC is not tweakable. The Bosch is, until either you are happy or your engine goes bang.

As for the glowplug controller. It can be done. Get hold of a controller and then replicate the pre-'96 Xantia arrangement so that it will give post-heating. This needs a relay or two. It's not hard and I can supply the necessary circuits...

That would be great if I do end up doing the swap Jim. I'm sure my dad would love doing something electrical like that (no sarcasm there either!).

Another thing I was thinking about - the AC system.. I assume on a petrol it has some socket to the ECU to raise the idle speed, whereas on my 306 there's no such feature as the engine's happy to idle with the AC pump on or off! If the ECU plug isn't connected for instance, would this cause any issues regarding the AC's running?

Cheers.

I would imagine it will be fine with it as on the xantia diesels i've had i've never noticed the revs increase with aircon off or on and thats 2.1 and 1.9's.

Can't wait to see what this is like Dommo as it will be an improvement on the version they got across the water.

Are you looking at a turbo upgrade or work at all?

I meant because the ECU connector wouldnt be connected to anything, would that cause something to be open circuit and the AC not to work?

I wasn't thinking of any turbo work to be honest, wouldn't know what to uprate as I've no idea if the 2.1TD turbo tails off towards the end of the rev range, any ideas if it does? I know on a 1.9 the T2 turbo is better for higher rev range boost, whereas the GT15 I had on my 1.9 (which came on HDi's and also came on the late 98-99 1.9TD 306's) comes onto boost much sooner at around 1800rpm, but runs out if puff beyond about 4k.

I know the 2.1 is meant to boost well from low RPM but I don't know much more about it.

Cheers, Dom.

IIRC the 2.1 feels like an NA most of the top as it comes on boost slowly and gently and then holds it well to about 3.5k and then tails off. its kind of like the CT engine in that its meant for touring and lazy work rather than power. im sure it would respond well to a boost increase but never having had a bosch engined one have always feared the ecu going into limp home mode.

The 2.1 Lucas Xantia feels gutless.
Totally different to what 2.1 Bosch XM drivers report.

1.9TD SX Xantia Hatchback (Jenny) running on 100% veg for sale

ECU Controlled 1.9TDs were supposed to pull in the fast idle solenoid when the AC was engaged. Dunno about the 2.1 though!

Ahh, that's a clever idea. I know on my 306 the fast idle solenoid is acted on by a thermostat style thing on the thermostat housing.

If I do it I would be fitting a bosch pump so it would hopefully pull as well as XM owners say... Hopefully... ;)

I think a slightly larger compressor would be good, but I don't know if it'd be worth the cost of getting a turbo hybrid'd?
