Well it would appear the C%'s clutch is on its way out, 4th 5th and 6th if extended hovers around max torque until car catches up with engine speed then pulls cleanly to rev limiter.

Sadly that does seem to be very often the case.
Our local ones do have a decent reputation but are considerably more expensive than George Fraser. They can do a lot more though, he is old school and has no electronic diagnostic equipment. I imagine that will have to change sooner or later but for now he is first class with pure mechanics and has sufficient work to allow him to disregard the electronic side.

No but I did consider this when I had my DMF renewed. George had no defined opinion but said he had been hearing of problems with gearboxes suffering reduced life* after the DMF was replaced with a solid flywheel. I opted for the DMF as the one in wasn't completly shot but was close at 120,000 miles and I think my abusive driving style was largely responsible for its demise, I have since adjusted the way I treat it!

If you do a search for "Valeo AND DMF" you'll find a number of posts on the subject - the significance of Valeo being that they not only make Citroen original parts and other Citroen after-market spares, but also produce a replacement flywheel/clutch kit for the 2.0HDI that does away with the unreliable DMF. The two drawbacks are 1. drivers need a more delicate left foot; 2. you'll probably have no option but to buy a Valeo clutch plate next time around.
