annoying tailgate water.

Unread post by lexi »

On Xantia hatch I have accumulation of water which spills back into channels and then into boot area when hatch door is lifted full height. I have cleaned the drain holes with compessed air and a small piece of welding wire.....no change.

Could my tailgate membrane be the cause?

If that's an estate model, yes.
You should check the adhesive/sealant at the lower part of the membrane,
especially around the curves nearby the lock mechanism.
Check also if there's water in the rear passenger footwell.

Tip: I have renewed membrane adhesive by 3M auto glass sealant tape.

No, think this is a common problem on Xantia hatchbacks. If its been parked in the rain and you go to open the boot, some might spill inside. I remember us sending ours back to the Citroen dealer when it was new to have it looked at.

C5s almost have the same problem, but usually it falls into the chanels at the side of the opening, but sometimes it goes in the boot. Though not on the back seats like our old Xantia used to :?

Mine does the same.

Minor irritation :D

You need to make sure there is no water in the foot wells...

I found out the hard way

Thanks guys. It`s the V6 hatch. I have done the membrane on two estates previously.

The water seems to channel into a very tight bottleneck. which clogs with dirt. However even after cleaning there is still water being held. In the design then......which is poor.

Also always had water dripping into the boot with the lid up.

All the water from the channel is dumped onto the tail light cluster.
If the cluster seal leaks, water gets into the boot through the opening for the wires, with water sloshing around inside the cluster.
