99 Berlingo multispace - a couple of problems

Unread post by paul in normandy »

Just acquired a 1999 Berlingo multispace, one of the 3 door + hatchback type things (what were they thinking of?) which has got a couple of problems. The dash lights don't work - I tried the remedy mentioned here, holding the rh button in but that did not work. It seems unlikely that all the bulbs are gone - has it got a seperate fuse, if so which one. I also cannot work out how to get at the sidelight to replace a bulb, thought I would consult someone knowledgeable before being too brutal with it.
The car came without an owners handbook or a Haynes manual.

That's very hard to give you any advices because nobody knows type of engine or OPR of your car. As I understood you have M49 Berlingo?

Its a 1.9 diesel. Type MC15104CX432 / Chassis no VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]********.
Whats the OPR?
What's the engine type got to do with the fact that the dashboard illumination doesn't work or how you remove the sidelights?

Answer: The wiring harness (and position of some fuses) can often be very different between engine variants.

Looked everywhere for a plate like that, there does not appear to be one, there is an ally plate with the chassis number on it under the bonnet - but fortunately all the numbers are on the CG - and the 'type' is MCT5104CX432.
Must buy a Haynes manual methinks, especially as the R4 has succumbed to the tinworm and is no longer a goer.

The age of your Berlingo is right at the point where a painted RP number under the bonnet changed over to the sticker above which is normally located on the drivers door 'A' pillar close to the hinging point. If you don't have the sticker have a look under the bonnet on the offside for a four digit number.

The best way is to input VIN here: http://service.citroen.com and
and tell us OPR or RPO or DAM(for ancient cars).

Concerning position of OPR-number on you car. Below on the picture, letter F with arrow gonna show you label with OPR.

I did notice a number painted on it, will have a look in the morning.
Always work on the basis that Mr Haynes fine publications are better than nothing, at least it gives you a start. Don't think I've ever bought a new one though, so he does not get many royalties out of me. :)

Nothing to prevent you from downloading of a Citroen service backup documentation.

The painted on numbers are 8117 and the 5 letter code also on the suspension strut is KOAER.
