Xantia 2.0 HDI Heater problem

Hi, My 2.0 HDI heater has just stopped heating the car!.
I have checked the water level, checked fuses. The fan now runs at one speed only! Air con light does not come on either?
Any ideas?

Welcome to our playpen, lionstar.

Does it not heat because the fan isn’t putting out much hot air, or does it put out cold air ?
The one speed, is it fast or slow ?
The HDI is an efficient engine that doesn’t release much heat, so by cold weather it takes quite long to warm up.

The fan runs at i guess mid to fast speed? Only very cold air! even after long run.

Looks like an unusual climate control ECU fault.
It lives high up in the dash, towards the centre, behind the glove box.
What you can do for now, is to remove the motorised heater flap mechanism, so as to open the flap to let hot air in.
It’s at the very bottom front of the centre console, on the passenger’s side.

Thanks for the reply. I just tested the control with a meter and i guess you are on the button as there is no life there at all!
I will have a go at you remedy and get back to you,

Ok, i pulled the centre of the dash/consul apart and don't seem able to find the flap? any ideas?

The motor pictured in the first photo is found just to the left of the centre console above the felt on the underside of the dash, i.e. head in the footwell looking up.

The ECU is located just to the right of the motor shown right up alongside the transmission tunnel, to remove it pull a plastic clip to one side then pull down the ECU.

One important point to note is that the A/C ECU cannot be replaced with one from another Xantia unless the donor is also an HDi or you have a Lexia to re-programme it for operation on a HDi.
