Heated wing mirrors

Unread post by Martin Beevers »

Hi,

Just a quickie, On my wing mirrors I have a couple of wires attached to the back. I presume these wires are for heating. But I can't find a switch to turn them on.

Do they come automatically? Or do they come on when the rear windscreen heater is switched on?

As far as I know Martin, they come on with the heated rear window.

Yeah, dumb question.

I found the answer in my handbook...

Mine don't work, the rear window works fine tho, which counts out the fuse.

I've had them off a few times. Does it matter which way round you have the wires? (Another dumb question.)

I dont think it really matters which way the wires go. I have just replaced the drivers side mirror on my VSX and i had power to the leads but no heat so i assume that the heating element has given up the ghost :)
Its worth checking that you have power at the wires as it may be you have a break somewhere in the inner door loom.
Stating the obvious but you need the engine running for the heating element to work

If that's the case clean up the connectors on the back of the mirror glass as they do suffer corrosion, failing that and you have 12v there it'll be the mirror glass heating elements which do become less effective over time.

Do all cars have heated mirrors? Mine (year 2000 Hdi90) doesn't seem to have heated ones. HRW works fine.

Not sure,

To check take the mirrors out, and if you have 2 wires attached to the back of them then I would say you have.

Generally speaking those equipped with electric mirrors were also heated, especially on S1 models.
