Replacement Xantia "chrome" inserts

Unread post by wainy »

Hi,

Does anyone know if its still possible to get hold of the stainless steel replacements for the bumper and side strip brightwork on a Xantia Mk1?

I'm sure I remember these being advertised a few years back.

Thanks,

WAINY.

Same here it seems to be a Citroen design feature.

Maybe the amount of milkyness can be related to how old the car is, so like tree rings the age can be determined from it.

Could we be in for the same problem with the newer cars C4 C5 etc also, as they are also probably made cheaply unlike a CX I saw recently, which had original trims in good condition, and the part looked better made, and therefore had lasted longer!

Thanks for all the replies to this post. Citronut..... if you do find the number for Brian Primmer that would be great.

By the way, I've found that autoglym bumper care brightens up the strips quite well but obviously can't hide the "crustiness" when they start to degrade.

Try this link here.

The number, and details appear several times on the search, so try the number, and see if you can get hold of him.

Brian will more than likely be selling these strips at the DS/SM rally next month.

Well that's another good reason to go!

Although does he normally carry a few sets, as there appears to be a certain amount of Xantiae going?

We got a set of them from Brian at Weatherby a few years ago. For the white Xm, they do look far better than the crusty old ones which were pealing off.

Front and rear bumpers are a problem though. New strips are available from Citroen, atleast they were for the Xm, although they are a bit a bit pricey. If i remember rightly i think it was £150 for the pair, front and rear strips for the Xm. Not sure how long they will be available for though.

Oh, on the new ones i put a bit of silicone sealer around the end of the Citroen bumper ones, hopefully that will keep the water from between the plastic and the chrome effect for a little longer.
