Cruise control quest...

Is that the motor I can hear running when I turn the ignition on on the SX? I don't hear it on any of the others. Would it be for the EGR system, if so it obviously doesn't work on the other cars.

Thats the EGR system, that can get VERY VERY noisy, and it IS disconnectable, theres a white plug with white wires over the drivers side around the ECU box area..

You wont hear the cruise motor, as it ONLY works when the system is activated, and is quiet, and obviously yur in the car driving at that point..

ALL the TD's should have the EGR system, I guess they are either still quiet in operation, or have already been dissconected..

From memory, the regular brake light switch is a "make" while the cruise switch is a "break".

The PSA rig is actually a Hella setup. You need the control box, a dual output speedo fitting in the gearbox (provides electronic control for the cruise and still spins the speedo cable), the vacuum pump/regulator assembly and the vacuum bellows/cable. I'd be ratting a manual 406 for the clutch switch and a later Xantia for the brake pedal one.

Look under the fuse panel next to your steering wheel to see if there's a violet coloured relay socket. If not, you might end up having to make a fairly simple (it's all relative!) harness using bits off a donor car.

I used use it in third on the 2.5 in 30 zones so I didn't speed. Sorely missed such a facility on the C5 (fourth and fifth only!)

I have cruise control in the Activa, but I have never used it other than on fifth. Should try that. It's not an original item though. The cruise in my Xsara worked only on fourth and fifth, although the user manual said that it was limited to speeds above 60km/h...

. Have to wait for another one to come up. Cant believe it though the car was a 3.0l exclusive! being broken! argghhh!! And nothing wrong with it he just couldnt sell it!

It's seriously not hard. There are about eleven wires into the control box; the rest of it's just mucking about.

Can you solder proficiently? I'd sort of assumed everyone can solder/splice/heatshrink.

Soldering not a problem! Ive done stuff like wire my leather seats and other small stuff...
When i go get the bits ill just take as much wiring as i can see- then seperate later- usually works!

Ah me, I feel an age thing coming on. Back in the old days some cars used to fit a hand throttle, normally a small lever that worked around the steering wheel boss. Seems to me it will do what most owners want without all the electronic trickery. How about a cable operated hand throttle? Mind you, you'll have to be quick to close it if you have to brake suddenly!

I drove a borrowed 1950's Volvo PV444 to Stockholm that had a hand throttle, brilliant.

An update on the quest.
Cruise control on xantias seems a bit difficult to source! However i have found an XM with it and will use those parts should be interesting!
Does anyone know where the cruise ECU is located on a MK2 XM?

You can also rob a D8 406. Look for an up-spec V6.
