dispatch,
I had a similar problem earlier this year, which disappeared on its own. I did get some advice here, although I never got to the bottom of the problem. These two threads might be worth a read:

Please let me know if you find a solution, so I've got something else to try if mine ever comes back!
Cheers,
Ben.

The relay for the wipers is the blue one behind the trim pannel below the steering wheel (where the fuses are). Replace the relay and this should rectify your problem - it did for me!

turn the wipers on and see if you can hear/feel which relay is clicking.

On other older cars that I have had the self park switch is built into the wiper motor.
How would a relay know where the wiper arm was on the screen.MMMmmm??

My 306 rear wiper has a mind of its own. Only works when it wants
to! Often when off!!

I haven't looked at the 306 circuit schematic but when my Porsche 924 intermittent wiper relay died (it went intermittent-intermittent), it was possible to remove the relay and jumper the relay socket with a short length of wire with a couple of spade connectors to restore the self park. That's been working for the last 15 years OK [:-)]
I bet the controls are likely to be very similar.
Cheers
