Only one day left before the new owner picks it up 8) I've just this minute finished painting the door and wheelarch, as the weather is meant to be turning later but currently its lovely and mild with sunshine, so the paint is drying off a treat. Perfect colour match too. Will post some pictures later!

I'm very happy with the end result, its pleasing to get hold of something that needs a little bit of love, and then onto a new home to be looked after further.

Cor!

You know, theres a few bits on my Xantia that could with touching up, scuff on a body coloured bumper/ wing mirrors and a few odd chips filled in with horrible looking touch up paint.

How long did the repaint procedure with the Activa take?

Shame you're all 'up' Norwich Gareth :(

The work could be done in about 4 hours. Arch and door had to be painted seperatly as I had to blow it into the shut.

I actually did the work in stages. Last wednesday I ground it all back and applied the rust treatment, gave it two coats, it was then left for 2 days and by this time the rust had turned black.

Couple of days ago I primed it and then added a couple of skims of filler to cover deep pitting, sanded and primed again to shape and then this morning it was all painted up, only took 2 hours to do this.

The paintwork has a lovely deep shine to it, it mopped up far easier than my own car! Great colour in the sun.

What kind of paint are you using - acrylic, polyurethane, or one of the quicker curing variants like polyacrathane or a UV/IR cured one? Curious.

Cheers, Adam.

Waterbased basecoat, conventional 2k Lacquer with extra fast hardener for air drying. Goes dust free is a few minutes in this weather, no need to IR it unless you want to machine polish it within the hour. Left for one hour to airdry its hard enough to machine/nib off.

Wow :o I didnt know you did bigger jobs like that, thats superb. The car also looks superb, what a finish! A fantastic job 8)

Its a shame your so far away or i wouldnt mind you doing ours. There is a scrape on the Xms rear wing which really needs doing, chips away wont do it as its too long :? So it will have to be a trip to the bodyshop unfortunately.

It looks a very nice Activa, good to see its going to a good home, and in such shiny condition too :D

I've done whole cars before! But only for friends or myself. Much easier to keep the work localised. The lacquer is use is my tried and tested and holds its shine very well, i used it on my own and do it on bigger jobs too. Just 2 weeks ago i repainted virtually the whole side of a near new Fiesta using the stuff, very versatile.

Superb job indeed! You need to bring your van to the Ring next summer, I have a couple of spots in the rear door openings that need some paint (not to mention the chipped rear spoiler). :)

Will picked her up this morning, luckily it wasnt tipping it down with rain so he could check it out properly. I'm sure he will keep us updated on its progress, we now have another one in the fraternity!

It would be interesting to hear the new owners impressions, so we will look forward to hearing from you Will.

Pleased to hear that the fraternity is growing! 8)

Well i made it home in one piece :D

Been taking it easy in her as one of the strut tops is a bit holey so need to get that done as soon as i get paid but the rear spheres and the accumulator im hoping to do today.
Got tinterweb at home now so all good btu barely get the chance to do anything for ourselves as we are trying to sell our house and move onto another at the moment so been doing lots to the garden at the back to returf it and need to do the front as well :)

The car corners really well and I can't wait for the suspension to be sorted and then to get it all checked out and cleared on a lexia.

Love the acceleration, reminds me of the coupe, feels like a powerful NA than a turbo vehicle :)

Its still super shiney now as well other than the brake dust froim the trip home, took over 3 hours as the mobile went flat just before i got to Norwich train station, then tried a few public phones on the way home but none were working..... got stuck behind some of the slowest vehicles in the world on the way back but some good overtaking oppurunities arose which showed what the car can do :)

Rachel likes it as well other than the hard ride at the rear and matthew loves new sporty car as he calls it :)
Its a real sleeper as well being a green one as well and the sunroof is super :)
Fixed the alarm by cleaning the fob out and putting some new batteries in it then coding it up.

If anyone is scrapping a Xantia mk1 could i have the handbook pack at all as it would be usefull to have such things :)
Also does anyone know how to recode the keypad at all to a code i can more easily remember??

Thanks again to Gareth for saving the car and treating her to a good bit of TLC which i reckon will see her thru a good few years of service with me i hope :)

Please it's all good and you're happy :D
