Will's Citroen Xantia Activa

Unread post by XantiaMan »

Saved it last week and have carried out a basic assesment on what it needs to make it into a very good example.

It is a Nov 1995 build, very early. It has no A/C, however it has an electric sunroof in lieu of this, a typical factory option at the time.

It has covered 125k, the engine is extremely quiet, responsive and and a great example of how a low-pressure turbocharged Activa should perform. It doesnt smoke or knock.

The gearbox is also excellent, the gearchange is far superior to my S2!

All tyres have good tread on them. The wheels are not heavily corroded like some but they are far from mint, they clean up well.

The interior is clean. The drivers seat has the usual saggy side cushion and its starting to thin out, but find me one this age that hasnt done this?

It has dark grey headliner and pillar trim, compared to my S2 its more cockpit like. Being an early one, it doesnt have the wood trim on the dash.

It needs two strut tops replacing, very difficult to find S/H as specific to VSX/Activa spec so dealer is the only option.

The accumalator sphere is flat. Because of this, the car doesnt sit level with the engine off. Once started it goes up quickly and sits perfectly. It is bouncy at the rear and requires new rear spheres which are still available from GSF.

The rams at each end are bone dry which would suggest they are in good condition. The car still does handle with a degree of anti-roll, but wont be at its best due to the dead spheres. With these done and a Lexia reset to clear the inevitable codes it will handle exactly as it should.

I really do need to shift this on to a fellow enthusiast ASAP. If a new owner comes forward, the car will be machine polished and waxed, and the door will be repaired. Cosmetically it would need very little doing.

Not sure which 'mounts' you mean to paint? Wouldnt paint the mirror base, it would look gash! Best thing to do on these is paint the number plate surround, did the same on my TD. Have replied to your PM.

Steal at £250.

Do you think the ph1 is quicker than the ph2, due to less toys i.e aircon etc, the one i drove certainly seemed to go better.

Yip i meant the base's and the underside as on mk1's theres a bit of black plastic under the cover still but not on mk2's iirc.

Thanks again Gareth :) cant wait till next wednesday now :)

I reckon it makes its wieght up with the Sunroof.

Really if you wanted to shave wieght there is a good few kg's in the trim that could come out, i'd hate to think how much that all wieghs for the little use it gets other than the drivers seat of course!!

I wouldnt say quicker, just feels different. They made subtle differences, the S1 sounds a bit gruffer in note but feels more willing, it could be because of the engine note TBH.

As my S2 is tweaked slightly its hard to tell as it is lot torquier on boost.

The lack of air con sapping engine power and the weight will make a bit of difference, easily 5bhp knocked off if the aircon was running.

This car is now sold and going to a good home. I've already started prepping it for the new owner!

If the new owner of this vehicle would like to divert around this way when they pick it up, I will be be most happy to pop my Lexia on it..

Who is the new owner Gareth or Will you not tell

We Will have to come to some arrangement over times...

I wish i could pop by Jim but as i'm making an early start that morning i've promised Rachel and the nippers i'll be back for early afternoon so i can give her a rest from the kids to maybe do some lesson planning :(

May have to wait i guess until your next passing or i get sent down to lond for the day or something as a nice new job im hoping is coming my way soon so i may have to pop down there to pick some kit up and it will be a good excuse not to book a hire car for the day :D

Gareth the car looks even nicer now and i can see from the picture the nice deep shine :)

I've got the clearer rear lights off my old TD that i may put on and see how they look as for some reason i always preferred them to the more red-ish ones but I'll see how it goes as its not a major job to swap them over :)

getting the 3 spheres from GSF will save me a small fortune as well as the accumulator was the price breaker for me being £100 from citroen and £30ish from GSF! pity GSF dont do Strut Tops(i always want to call them top mounts lol!) and i'll be keeping my eye out for a cheap manual leather interior as money is still tightish at the minute due to Rachel only just starting back to work after 7 months maternity leave.

Cant believe i will soon be a member of the elustrious Activa Owners club!!
