If the suspension's "hard & bouncy", sounds like a classic case of replacement spheres required.

Cheap as chips (almost) & easy to do with the right sphere removal tool.

You just have to remember to have the suspenson on full height to crack the thread before you de-pressurise to change the spheres.

Did mine & oh what a difference.

Cheers,
Roy.

Apart from the abs light being on £130 for a 98 Xantia cant be bad. You can break it and get more than that.

I  at the bit in bold

Oh dear...could be a nice little project though? I would say height corrector, does look to be rather high. Shouldn't take much to sort it out

If it's got Hydractive 2 suspension then the rear could be bouncy because either the centre sphere is shot, so the rear is stuck in hard mode. Or, the diode has failed on the rear electrovalve, which also would cause the rear to stay in 'bouncy' hard mode.

Both of these issues is easy to fix.

It's a mk1 so let us know if it's got the sport mode button in front of the height adjuster (next to the handbrake). If it's got the button then it's Hydractive 2.

Don't all VSX spec models from the later era come with Climate Control and the 4030 radio?

Whilst there can be differences between UK and Irish specs for Xantia's if that one is to UK spec then its a SX (i.e. non Hydractive) model. A VSX came with alloys, 4030 radio and a leather wheel (which that one doesn't have), whereas an LX wouldn't have the front fogs. A/C became standard on all models in 96.

As far as what's wrong with the car it could simply be a detached plastic link to the height corrector or the corrector itself.

Although he says the spheres have been replaced I cant see that anything else could make it 'bouncy' unless the ride height is wrong and its hitting the bump stops. Even if the centre sphere is flat, it still shouldn't bounce but it will ride hard. Even if the wrong spheres have been fitted it still shouldn't bounce, sounds like one or both of the replacements have failed.

It is almost certainly not hydroactive (the steering wheel is the best clue).
My 10p would wager that the wrong psheres have been fitted.

in the side view it looks like the rear end has not come up to the corect level,

£150 sqid to supply and fit two rear spheres, sounds a bit extautionate
