Problems & Fixes - driveline judder/clonk

Unread post by andmcit »

The first and really the only job required when I first got my black Activa.
It took a while for it to irritate me enough to rummage about the engine
bay to make some sense of it; admittedely, it wasn't totally horrid but there
was an ever present noise and a judder through the car, notably on sharp
decelleration instances on the overrun. It felt like the exhaust wasn't too
happy actually.

What was a real eye opener was the movement of the engine when gently
rocked by hand. The main top mounting attaching the elaborate swan neck
arm was fine but a much smaller, easily overlooked mounting tucked away
to the back of the engine bay on the far offside (ECU side of the car) had
totally collapsed the central rubber bush.

The fix is actually an easy one - yes, rare I know, whereby the worst part
was actually paying the quite reasonable 30odd quid from Citroen for the
new mounting incorporated into an ally casting. I undid the big easy to
undo bolt single bolt without any need for jacking the engine as this is
really a stabiliser mount and then the three large bolts mounting the
casting to the side of the main inner wing. A genuine 20minute job where
you can probably even wear cream chino's!! :D

Made a tremendous difference but I fear what availability in another
8 years time will be!?

I've just looked this up for someone else, part No 1839 46, £25.41 + VAT.

Yes, I too had this bush go on mine, and it was not too difficult to trace, and diagnose, it was as you say easy to change, and it made a big improvement from the noise it had been producing with it worn out.

If only other repair jobs were this easy.

I would hope it is still available in the future for others that would need it, as the part is small, and should be easy to make, or rebush.

Is this part also used on the 406, with the CT engine?

Finally changed mine this morning. It reminded me why I don't do much work on cars! Very tight to get to the bottom bolt, and not a lot of room to get the mount in and out. Got there in the end though, and it's improved the feel of the car immensely. It was quite a pain to drive in traffic before due to the clunk when engaging the clutch.

I must admit it took me a lot longer than 20 minutes though!

Or else I'm just clumsy! It's certainly crowded under there. There's a nice gap right down to the bottom just by the mount too, which is handy for dropping a spanner into!

Hi...

I have similar problems with this mount, If I am correct its right behind the bulkhead driver side..

Mine looks ok but I get a loud vibration between 1800/2200 rpm..Defo coing from there because holding it cures it...

Gona order a bit now and change it out...

Cheers fellas...

It bolts onto the inside of the driver's side wheel arch. It's very difficult to see the condition when it's in place.

To get pics on here for us to see you need to use a service like Photobucket.

You upload the pics to photobucket.com and then you can post them here by referring to the photobucket URL or link etc.
