51 plate xsara 2.0 cat

My font pipe needs raplacing but I can't seem to find one that fits for less than £395, this seems a bit rich for me and I wondered if anybody had any ideas.

The pipe has two sensor "sockets" one for the lambda sensor and one I think for a heat sensor, though I'm not too sure about this, these are located front and rear of the cat. On the manifold mounting is a flexi fitting.

I would really appreciate some advice on a place to go for a quote, like a website or dealer.

Have a hunt around, you should be able to get a bespoke stainless steel one (Full system!) for around £350~£400 and lose the cat (pre '97 IIRC).
There is an ATS local to me that does them - just one particular branch though, it isn't a universal thing.

That raises a question, can the ECU on a hdi handle not having a cat?
What do you do about the lambda/MAP/treacle sensors?

I believe the car in question will be a 2.0 petrol which is EOBD compliant, hence the two exhaust sensors one each side of the catalyst. If it was a diesel then the act could be removed and there would not be an exhaust sensor unless the car was fitted with a particulate filter.

There are companies around that make up catalyst bypass pipes that still have the hole for the lambda sensor as its required by the ecu to assess the fuel mixture.

Ooops! automatically assumed diesel. I don't think you could lose the cat on a petrol model and get away with it.

There seem to be a few varieties of 2.0 engine in the Xsara so I would strongly advise you to speak to them on the phone before ordering.

Citroen dealer prices range from £600 to £1300, depending which engine it is.

i agree with Steve if a petrol car left the factory wearing a pussy cat i will need it for the MOT

Indeed, it might scrape through on emissions (pretty sure my Activa would) but the MOT tester will fail it on a "visual" because the cat is missing.

the law says that all post-1993 petrol cars must have a cat and that's it really.

My lad decatted his 200SX and kept the old cat just for MOT purposes
