C5 CD/Radio

Unread post by bigray »

Hi I have just pruchased a 51 plate C5 HDi. Love the car howver the CD player doesn't work the Radio works fine when I stick a cd in it takes it in displays -- --TRK then after about 30 - 40 seconds spits it back out. Has anyome got any idea what causes this or if it's a common fault. Also if I buy a replacement unit will it be a straight swap or will it need soem kind of specialist programming?

Thanks

More than likely a faulty set then, would be worth taking the unit out 1st & give it a shake to see if the kids have been using it as a piggy bank, coins in the radio can cause all sorts of strange faults.
If you fit an aftermarket unit you wont need to reprogram anything as long as you wire it up correctly, even though it has ISO plugs on the back of the set its not just a plug straight in job, you will need to source a seperate ignition live from the fag lighter etc & isolate the multiplexed wires from the new set.

If you get another citroen one you will need to get your VIN number programed into it with a Lexia or Proxia machine so that it matches the VIN stored in the BSI. If you dont you will get an annoying beep every few seconds.

I think some members on here have a Lexia, if you're lucky there will be one near you.

While we're on the subject- what are the implications of fitting an aftermarket stereo to the C5?

Aftermarket stereo

Unread post by den169 »

I fit a Sony mp40 to my 2003 c5 estate i had to buy a facia adaptor and an adaptor to make the steering column stereo controls work.Plugged straight in no messing with wires etc.I also bought a sony mp3 disc changer too,so i now have up to 7 discs full of mp3 music its very rare i get past the first disc.I would never go back to the standard steroe in an early c5 they are rubbish.
