From...
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/03/17/bt_phorm_lies/
"BT has admitted that it secretly used customer data to test Phorm's advertising targeting technology last summer, and that it covered it up when customers and The Register raised questions over the suspicious redirects."
A complainant writes...
"I note the statement, 'absolutely no personally identifiable information was processed, stored or disclosed'. That means that all my information was processed, stored or disclosed but the personal bits were filtered out. Clearly that was unlawful."
I hope BT get nailed to the wall on this one

BT are getting really far too big for their boots !
Their latest trick is to charge £4.50 for the cost of processing your payment if you don't pay by direct debit.
They just seem to show utter contempt for their customers.
I really hope they get their fingers well and truly burned by the Phorm racket.

Legally, it's all hinging on consent. However, IMO it should be specific consent, not assumed or implied - which is the preferred cowardly method used by commerce & government nowadays. The customer should also be fully informed of exactly what they are consenting to, not the BS sales pitch they keep being fed.

You are already with Tiscali. They bought Pipex a while ago and are busy moving Pipex customers onto the Tiscali network.
Same with Nildram, who I am with, not for much longer since I'm getting Tiscali's cut price service for Nildram's full price fee.
Seems I'm too late but I would have gone to be* or Zen.
And, sorry to bring bad news, but there is no getting away from BT unless you go with the dreaded beardy fellow who is fond of balloons. BT still own and maintain your line. If it needs fixing you have to get your new provider to get BT to fix it.

Hi Homer,
As long as I'm not still paying for line rental I don't really mind who owns what.
My monthly bill was more than £35 including line rental and now it will be £15 per month.
I am aware that Tiscali bought Pipex last year, but the interesting thing is that Tiscal themselves are now up for sale. I suppose it's something to do with the big global money freeze. Wouldn't it be just my luck if BT bought Tiscali.
I looked at Zen, BE & NewNet but they don't include free line rental which was my main requirement.
Why is it too late for you to go with BE or Zen ?

As it happens there is a 10 day cooling off period so I can still cancel without penalty if I want to.
One of the reasons I didn't choose TalkTalk is that they have an 18 month contract compared with only 12 months with Tiscali.
Tiscali have also been recommended to me so I reckon I'll give them a go unless something special pops up in the cooling off period.

Just a side issue on all of this: My Pipex ADSL failed today and as it carries the link between the FCF and BXC webservers and the Databases, it's very critical as far as the FCF and BXC are concerned. I had an ADSL link but no connection to Pipex.
I called Pipex support. They answered promptly and I (perhaps luckily) got a person who knew what he was talking about and instantly adjusted to my level of ability and told me exactly what the problem was: a major problem in my local exchange. All in a call that lasted about 3 minutes, including the time taken to determine I was the owner of the account.
I was mightily impressed and justifies my continued use of Pipex, despite them being more expensive than some of the rivals.
