Hydraulic Pressure Regulator

1999 1.9td Estate Diesel
There is LHM leaking out of the rear of my pressure regulator opp end to the shere, ive not yet been able to determine if it is on the regulator or a pipe connection, is it common for a regulator to fail? Does anyone know if a recon regulator can be found if this is the problem and if so what is the procedure for changing it, or could it be a pipe seal? The suspension and brakes perform normally and there is no excessive ticking from the accumalator suggesting it is working properly Any help appreciated.

Leakage from the rear of the regulator is quite a common problem, it's a sinch to change, just a case of nuts and bolts. The regulator fitted to the later cars does not use the citroen fitting and seal arrangement on the 6.35mm feed pipe, this model uses a much finer thread size so make sure that you get the correct one for the car.

It will be worth checking the main accumulator sphere as running with a flat sphere can cause the leak, certainly if the main accumulator is over 3 years old, I would be changing it at the same time as the regulator.

Pleiades do the recon units at a very reasonable price, give them a call on 01487 831239, although I think that it may be a tad late now, untill Monday, as they are not allways in at the weekends.

Its well worth cleaning the regulator very carefully and establishing exactly where the leak is. If its coming from somewhere other than the regulator it will still be there when you've replaced it.

Possibilities are a split in the pipework - particularly the pipe from the pump especially if its supports aren't properly attached, leaking pipe seals, and drips from elsewhere running on to and dripping from the regulator.

Hi - had this exact problem last year (in my Xantia 1.9TD). Being a helpless young girl - lol - I got a big specimen of the male species to look at it. It was leaking from the end (offside if sitting in car). He tried everything to fix it but to no avail. Eventually I had to bite the bullet and get a replacement from a breakers (£40). It worked perfectly. Apparently the breaker said there a quite a few pipe variations so make sure you count the number of pipes that enter it. The bolt fittings though, are the same. Quite easy to fit. Mind you, by the time you get this, you have probably fixed the problem. Best of luck. Any trouble getting a replacement - give me a message. Love, Michelle.

the O/S = the drivers side if you are in or out of the car and the wright hand side when sitting in the car , the rear of the regulater is towards the N/S,

if you had something leaking at the O/S it was probably you hydaulic pump
