Clio dci start problems

Unread post by Plumb bob »

Hi all, Mrs Bob has the 1.5dci cleo, and it has recently been failing to start.

Symptons are;

Turn key....nothing, not even a click from the solenoid, it will do this for 3-5 try,s and then start as normal.

Took it to loacal garage who said that the cleos suffer from water ingress to the ecu, and as it happens the sun roof has been leaking for a while.

The mechanic said that the sunroof fix would be about £275 as the seal was £80 and the rest labour.

So question is, does this sound right, can the seal be got from anywhere other than renault, where is the ecu, and can I seal it against water ingess untill I can afford to get the sunroof fixed.

Oh, and is the sunroof a diy job?

Thanks in advance for your speedy replies :D

Well the ECU is just behind the battery in the engine compartment. Can't really see how a leaky sunroof could affect this.

Actually if you get absolutely nothing when turning the key, I would suspect the key switch first.
Unfortunately the starter is buried so deep behind the engine, you can't get to the terminals on the solenoid to test there.
When trying to start, switch the headlights on. Do you see them dim at all when you turn the switch to start? If they almost go out that would suggest a poor battery connection or earth.
