Tickover adjustment is I believe programmed into the ECU so not a diy job - unless somebody knows different! Wheel wobble, if you mean vibration is almost always caused by defective/out of balance tyres.

Yep ECU function - what's up with it? We tried to get my mate's 306 HDi to run at fast idle to bleed the cooling system - pulled back the throttle cable and about 10s later the computer reset the idle speed

This happened at 65-75MPH with my old tyres and is still the same with new Balanced Goodyears.

The rears are probably where your vibration is coming from. Check for lost balance weights or uneven wear.

Hi, thanks for that, would the rear wheels being out of ballance cause the steering wheel to to wobble then?

It could be that out of balance rear wheels could be causing the car to shake, which you would feel through the steering. Is the vibration constant or does it change after you have gone round a corner/bend?

Hi Peter,
Now you mention it it does sometime disapear after turning corners also on occasions its not present.
It manifests itself as oscilations of about an inch (not bean converted to decimal yet), on the stearing wheel and it doesent seem to be evident on the body.
I have read on other forums that this is a problem with the C5, but i cant get to the bottom of it.

Hi regards your wheel balance problem I had the same problem on my C5 and only cured it by putting all the locking bolts inline with the point of the chevron and valve. I have had no more annoying vibes on the steering wheel. It’s worth a try.

Hi 210national

That would indicate that there are two wheels out of balance, when you corner the relative position of the wheels to each other changes, due to the fact that the 'inner' wheel turns more slowly. As they go in and out of 'phase' the vibrations either add to or cancel each other. Sandy's suggestion might be worth a try.

C5 Wheel wobble

Hi,
Thanks for all your replys, i have noticed that the locking nuts are a lot smaller ( and therefore lighter) than the rest of the wheel nuts, could this be the problem? i will try replacing these locking nuts with standard wheel nuts.
Will post results.
Thanks again.

I would keep your locking wheel bolts fitted for security. And yes the locking bolts are lighter than the normal bolts that is why you fit them to the heaviest spot on the wheel in line with the valve stem. As you know the wheels are balanced off the car and then fitted to the car but I think you’ll find the bolts are not all in the same place on the wheel, so all you have to do is swap them round and give them a try.

wheel wobble

Hi I had the same problem with my C5 2.2 HDI, I replaced the lock nuts and had all the wheels balanced .Don't have any problem now. Why do you want your tick over increased?
