P reg Xantia TD VSX Alarm Fault

The sensors on the alarm have always been sensitive, so I have always deactivate with the switch inside the car.

Lock the doors, Set the alarm, lights come on for a second to confirm and then go off.

Tried to do that tonight and the indicator lights have just stayed on.
Did it a few times with no change, just stayed on?????

In the end have just locked the car and not alarmed it.

Anyone experienced this before, does it go away or is there a method to rectify it.

Any help greatly appreciated.

first thing i would try is to disconect the battery and reconect,to see if this resets the alarm system

Did think about that, but not certain if the radio code is correct, so wanted to do that as a last resort.

Someone did say to me a while ago that as its the standard fit radio, Citroen UK might be able to supply/confirm the radio code.

Any one know if this is the case??

Hi

When I'm messing about moving various cars and swapping batteries around
one of the VSX's sometimes does this - I've had the whole left side of the
car's indicators staying on - the only way around it that I know works is to
undo and reconnect the battery a few times I'm afraid!!

The radio can be reconstituted by buying a decode CD off ebay - IT WORKED
for me!

My Xantia VSX before the Pug used to do this sometimes as well.As already said,disconecting the battery used to clear it.You could also try pulling the alarm fuse out & putting it back in.That may do the trick as well,without losing your radio code.Cant remember which fuse number it is,but its in the fuse box below steering wheel.

The Xantia Activa I used to have did this when I first purchased it off ebay.

The problem was water in the alarm unit.

The unit is under the passenger front seat in a space under the carpet. My alarm box was sitting on the floor of the car because it's support bracket had broken. The water had leaked in through the heater/ventilation blower intake. My scuttle plate around the bottom of the windscreen had cracked and rain water dripped into the blower intake.

When I put my hand under the carpet I thought I had a built in fish tank. There was loads of water.

The solution was to fix the cracked scuttle plate. Remove the carpet and dry it out and dry out the alarm box then remount it so it wasn't on the floor.

The problem of indicators staying on (not flashing - just on) went away after this.

Here's a pic of the alarm unit. Seats and carpet removed.

If this helps too. My alarm on my Xantia was doing similar. It was the relay that had gone faulty in the alarm unit under the seat, so a replacement unit did the trick.

Hi All,
My 97 VSX 16v Xantia had (still got ) a problem with the alarm. I removed F17 fuse in the end. End of problem, but obviously no alarm. What was happening with mine was the headlamps were flashing all the time when alarm thought it was working--even when travelling. I kept hearing the clicking, so as said, pulled the fuse. Anyone any ideas about this fault.

I'm assuming when it was flashing that you could stop it with the remote plip? And that the siren wasn't sounding because it was turned off by the switch under the bonnet.
It sort of points to the control unit which is under the passenger seat but not too sure.
Did the alarm set/unset properly, showing it was doing this by flashing the indicators?

Hi Simon,
There is no switch to turn off alarm under bonnet--in fact the alarm siren is not there at all. Don't know where they have hidden it. The alarm used to work fairly well till the headlight flashing episode, then I just pulled fuse. Doors lock from plip ok, as do the deadlocks. Will have to look under the seat for the gubbins---see if there is any corrosion there.
16v 2litre VSX 97.

The alarm siren is located within the nearside front wing, just behind the repeat indicator, remove the wheel and arch inner liner. The alarm switch under the bonnet was removed around 95/9.6
