guys thanks

have brought a pack of 1mm tips.. (for .9 fluxed) on M5 thread... will check mine tonight to see thread size (the tips were opnly cheap)

I have done some mig a few years ago, its coming back slowly..

The first job I need it for is a tiny non structural weld (see top) so I will work something out for tonight tomorrow.. the main concern now looks to be bad lniing and getting 2.5 meters or so of new stuff, that will take 0.9..

Will check rollers out etc as well

ps anyone one a portable butch single phase Stick welder, welds up to 12mm!

Regarding the roller, i'm using successfuly the 0,8mm side with 0,9mm fluxed wire

and due to a stupid mistake (welding to close to the tip and sticking the wire to the brass) i had to drill the tip out to 1,5mm. But it still does the job

that was my plan tonight

to 'get me out of a hole' so to speak

was to re-drill my tip for this one job..

it works!!

Took roller out and reveresed it.

Took blue inner lining out of main cable, tried a test peice of .9mm in both ends, no problems

Tight but good fit in the Tip.

the only real problem was the spool holder was set up for large reels, so I removed that and added a long 10mm bolt and used that as holder.

The original job is done, it wasnt pretty but fine for what i needed.

the welder was 'stabbing' at the work a bit, i tried chaging the speed once, but otherwise all was good.. now what I will do is practice, there's lots of info on the web ..

Wire speed too high (it feeds in faster than it can be melted).

Thanks Rich, did turn it down to 2 speed.. but maybe the power was wrong, and the work wasn''t that clean so may not have been a good arc..

I will definatley try on some scraps...

you get a far neater weld with a gased mig welder,i tried a gasless mig once that was enough never again,i use a large 190amp machine with it set to 3 on the power range out of 6,and thats welding dershes(2CVs,one thing to remember is you have to get full penatration,HE HE HE

another question.. my welding mask lets enough light in so I can see (if i look quite hard) without current running.. is this ok? - I brought second hand..

the red glow of new weld looks same brightness as i remember, but suprised i can see anything really? - when not welding...

I don't know of mask wearing out with time... Check the number it has (usually) printed on the glass. For low current MIG (120A +/-) a #8 should be used for a good view of the welding job and still offer protection.
I was using #11 glass and i couldn't see much of wath i was doing. Only good for arc welding, really.
I've bought a couple of weeks ago an electronic mask for 15 euro-bucks. One of the best buys i ever made! Just put the mask on and start welding. In the instant you strike an arc, it goes fully black, and mine, being #3 when not welding and #11 welding allows a good view of the weld (must be the fumes depositing on the external glass that don't make it that dark

Yeah, 15 euro! The other hardware store down the street had one for 100 quid! I even asked the price twice when i saw this one! I was stunned

I believe i'll buy few of those and sell them for 25€.

I live on the outskirts of the capital, Lisbon. I'll check the prices tomorrow morning as a friend asked me for one. If the price is the same, i'll buy some 10!

i use a couple of these high brightness lamps you are meant to use outside, you shine those at what you are trying to weld and you can usually see it really clearly......careful though they get very very hot
