door pins

my m.o.t on my xantia is now due and one of the problems apart from a faulty abs sensor is the drivers door, the hinge has come away at the weld on the door and also the door handle is bust so i've got a Replacement door, i've tried to remove the door pins but they seem very tight i was wondering if anyone has any tips for removing them

Hi Dave, they unscrew, normal threads..

They can be really tight, and will break light duty Torx bits. Soak then for a while, hit them, use heat, and hopefully you will undo them. But rest assured, you need a decent set of bits..

You might need to go at them with a small set of vise grips to get them started off. Replacement pins are relatively cheap in the main dealers.

no they dont,the pins on a xantia are square & sit in a square rececss.you put it in the unlocked position & if you look at the base of the pin there is a small slot.use a small electrical screwdriver in the slot & push the small tab in there downwards,the pin will then lift off.

the door pins are long torx headed bolts!

your talking about the lock lifters on the inside of the car?

jgra1 is correct the door pins are threaded torx head bolts, i think i'll try some heat on them first just in case i end up turning the head off them, one thing i forgot to ask is my car is a mk1 xantia but the door came off a mark 2 are they the same?

Doors are the same for Mk1 & 2.

Whoops,sorry didnt notice you were talking about the hinge pins.i was meaning the lock pins
