The remote locking on my 93 k plate 405 doesn't work. Have tried new batteries in the plipper to no avail. Any ideas on cheap repairs?

If it's an infrared system you can see if the LED on the plipper is working by pointing it into a digital camera or camcorder, as long as it has a electronic viewfinder it will display an infrared source, check with a known good IR source.
Or you can get a coated card from electronic shops that will reflect IR in the visible spectrum, it wont tell you if the code being put out is ok but it's a start.
