XM 2.5 Gearbox Oil Level Plug

Unread post by rg »

Folks,

Haynes and Russek seem to address the BE3 only.

Is the plug on the front side of the casting, up by the regulator?

I've found one there with a copper washer, taken it out, but it is around 2
inches long, and threaded into something steel, rather than the alloy
casing.

I recall a horror story of a Simca gearbox losing some kind of vital
spring inside due to mistaken removal of what appeared to be a drain plug.

From Noz's file it seems to be in more or less the same place as the 2.1

The level plug on the MG 5 T gearbox on my '95 2.5 XM is on the inner end of the box behind the offside (RHD) driveshaft oil seal. I hope this helps and apologies for the late reply.

If it would help to have a look at the partsbook it can be found:

http://www.tramontana.co.hu/citroen/

Follow the link just below the red line - both series 1XM and series 2 are there. Big files which will download on Mozilla Firefox but not IE if you are on dialup. (1650 odd pages each)

Or you can look at just the section you need at:
http://pepon1.free.fr/

Click on XM and the catalogue de pieces

The catalogue itself is in English once you get there.
