I have a Citroen Xantia HDi 110 SX 2001 model, I have had a few problems with my car and maybe they are linked.
Almost always, after driving the car a few miles in the morning, the engine justs cuts off with no warnings at all. It requires me of off the ignition and restart, sometimes takes several atempts to start again. It will then drive for a few yards and stop again... this will happen a few times, then after this, the car is fine, I can drive it for hundreds of miiles without this problem, stopping and starting the car all day.
I have also noticed that the car also cuts out if I drive it a bit rough...
Another point about the above problem is that the engine seems to cut off more often when the car is low on fuel, although it still does it on a full tank too...
I was told by several people that the fault could be the low pressure fuel pump in the fuel tank, so I spend nearly £200 changing the fuel pump which made NO difference at all!
I have also noticed that my car only does about 33MPG in town and maximum of about 53MPG on the motorwar at a steady 70MPH, this figures seem a bit low to me, could all this be linked??
Has anyone else had a similar problem and solved it?
Best Regards,
Bobby
