Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

According to Takata, the chemicals in the airbags’ explosive charge can...

Disruption to Parts Service

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

Road Springs

by np » 12 Aug 2004, 19:13

First post

Yes they are part of the suspension. On the front, you would have a strut, which your wheels & brakes are fitted to,Inside the strut is the shock absorber, then on the outside of that you have a coil spring. The shock absorbs the bumps etc,the spring helps smooth it all out.Basicly the same at the rear but no struts.Shock absorbers will wear...

I've just been told that my 1995 Laguna needs new road springs. The price quoted was £400+. First off, what are they (part of the suspension) and is this a reasonable amount?
The car is worth £600 tops...

92 espace v6 clutch problem

by triover » 09 Aug 2004, 03:01

First post

Hi there,
I had the same problem with my V6. The clutch did need replacing and unless you have a vehicle lift which will lift the car off the wheels is not a job for the home. It is also expensive!! I would suggest that while the garage has the gearbox out to get them to check the slave cylinder as if this goes then the box has to come out again...

Last post

it has become very difficult to select gears especially reverse in my 92 v6 espace. I presume it will need a new clutch as i can select gears if the engine is not started. My question is... is this a job for the garage or can it be done at home.

Laguna cutting out

by trevwoody » 12 Aug 2004, 17:06

First post

I had a couple of similar experiences with my Laguna cutting out. Very worrying on the M25 at 80!
Mine is 1995 2.0 RT. The garage replaced the starter motor (I had some non starts), distributor and rotor arm - one of these fixed the problem.
As for the temperature, I suffer from high temp too. This is my second Laguna and it runs a lot hotter...

Last post

I recently bought a 1998 laguna 2.0 5 door, which is a great car to look at and drive except when ive been driving for 30 mins or there abouts it starts to cut out plus the temp gauge seems to go straight to half way from the start...so 2 questions...
Q1...has anyone else had the cutting out problem and if so what was the cause and solution..???...

Espace brake failure?

by Richard Gallagher » 13 Jul 2004, 03:04

First post

Personally I would strongly suspect the master cylinder, the symptoms you describe are in keeping with it being past its 'sell by date'.
You could try bleeding the system and flushing it out, if possible use a pressure kit such as 'Gunsons' in order to make sure no air is trapped in the system, failing that then as above as far as I can see.

Last post

A worn wheel bearing can cause long pedal travel. Play in the bearing can allow the disc to move, forcing the brake pads out. This leaves the brakes needing to take up the play before they can work. A loose driveshaft nut can cause the same thing.

renault faulty hand brake

It may help temporarily if you park the vehicle in gear. If the handbrake should fail at least there is the possibility that the gearbox will stop it rolling away.

Clio wiper problem

by reblack68 » 31 Jul 2004, 15:23

First post

You've probably blown a fuse. Renault wipers will park with the ignition off so the park function must be protected by a different fuse from the wiping function.
I think a look through the fusebox will solve your problem. Let us know if that works or not.

Erratic Fuel Gauge

by grahamedriver » 24 Jun 2004, 02:01

First post

Hi
How quickly does it go down?
About the same speed as it does when you turn the key off?
If so you have probably nothing more serious than a bad connection.
On the other hand.... the bad connection might be inside the fuel gauge or sender itself. Have you tried tapping all the various bits to see if can recreate the fault?

Last post

Laguna 1997 (1.8 petrol)....
The fuel gauge is very rhythmic...It goes all the way down when i'm driving off, but then stabilises on a smooth road..hitting a bump causes it to fluctuate again.
Could this be the gauge itself or the sender unit (which i believe is part of the fuel pump itself?)
Any ideas will be appreciated.

In short, it's located behind the glovebox. To access it, you have to remove the glovebox (6 torx screws). Also, from beneath the glovebox, you have to unscrew the heater blower (bit awkward). Once done, if you follow the two thick wires (1 Red and 1 Black), these will lead you to (and are part of) the resistor.
Hope this helps...this is just off...

i have a 97 laguna and the heater will only work on number 4 i believe through previous post it is the resistor but could anyone help me as i dont know were it is or what it looks like

Does any one happen to know of a good company to contact for rear brake calipers for a Renault GTA ?
It seems most Motor Factors believe this car to be too specialised to have parts available, yet I cant believe this caliper is not shared by any other vehicle on the road.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul.

cd changer

by Stuart McB » 21 Jun 2004, 17:47

It depends on your head unit. A lot of the phase one units are Philips in which case you can get a way with a RC CD026 or it may be an Alpine unit. Have recently got one from E-bay and there seems to be alot of complete CD changers and head units for sale both seperate and together. If fitting an Sony unit you must make sure the original head unit...

three different bearings from three different suppliers to me it sounds like either the wrong bearing -older or newer model or that your hub is worn maybe packing the hub with grease before fitting the
bearing would help.

you could load the car up put a measured amount of fuel in 10-20-50 litres in set the trip meter and drive a combined urban route,or take the official figures and deduct 10-15 percent to give a more taxman friendly figure.

Hi Guys,
Dreaded taxman querying my business diesel estimates (no receipts - don't ask!) so I need to work out MPG for a 1998 Scenic 1.9dti (urban & combined and if poss when FULLY laden). Looking to back it up with an early mag review of the Scenics (Autoexpress; Autocar; Diesel Car etc from '96/'97'98) but no joy from these mags so far (threw...

Help! I've a 1994 diesel clio with electric power steering. I lose power assistance at low revs after I've been driving for about 10 minutes. The assistance comes on when I rev the engine. I changed the pump after being advised that it was likely to be on its last legs but that has not helped.
There are 3 selonoids in the system, I bought a new...

'98 Laguna Air-Con

by TazzyK » 21 Jun 2004, 14:45

If its not 'cold' then chances are the gas may be low. However, before taking it to a garage to 'measure' the gas (which I believe should be around 800g in total), press the A/C button whilst you are stationery but with engine switched on and idling. If you hear the compressor come on then its more than likely low on gas. If compressor does not...

Hi,would appreciate some help with diagnosing a 'not at all cold' air-con system. This is my first car with Air-con and I probably haven't used it enough through winter months!?
Some have said I need a new 'gas canister'?
Is this true? if so, is it easy to fit?
It's getting a bit hot in here
