Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Don't forget, as the forum doesn't know what the daylight savings rules are around the globe, you have to manually change the setting in your User Control Panel under Board Preferences, otherwise all the posts will appear an hour out.

This evening the forums (both the FCF and BXC) started playing up by giving lots of instances of popping up a login box and other errors.

I found the problem, after rebooting the webservers to no avail, to be a rougue IP address originating from the 3 network creating hundreds of guest sessions into the FCF and bringing it to its knees, along...

Has anyone else noticed that if you hover your mouse pointer over the thread title it displays the first few lines of the thread so that you have a better idea of what the thread is about before you decide to click on the thread and load it. Saves a fair bit of time avoiding threads that are not interesting or relevant to you, well done Xac :D

You need to restart your computer, it may take a little while to install the update though.

Been probably a few weeks or a month or so since I was last on here...

...has the design of the forum changed slightly? The top/header with the three french badges on the flag looks differant?
Also the colouring/font of the actual forum/subject/thread area (whatever it is called)?

Hotmail appears to be goosed today!

We are getting dozens of rejection notices for the forum mail where messages are being sent to hotmail accounts so if you are missing an expected message it ain't us to blame, it's Mr. Gates.

Oddly enough mine is working fine (never use it).

Hi, Is anyone else finding the pages of the forum very very slow to load?

this was the same yesterday afternoon and evenning, it is now 12:34 pm

perhaps this ia busy time? any ideas anyone please?

I have tried access on three different computers all running windows Xp pro service pk 3 but page loading is still very slow.

Why does the forum time keep changing between GMT and GMT+1 ? This affects the posting order. My PC time is correct yet now when i post it takes on GMT+1. The post i made earlier was correct at GMT. When i last logged on he time used was GMT, now its back to GMT+1. Is there any way to 'pin' this correctly?

Just analysed the logs for January, we had nearly 2.9MILLION hits!

Just under 470,000 hits are from spiders (google etc)
A hit is a request to the server, so a web page with just 5 images on will produce 6 hits (5 for the images, and 1 for the page itself).
There's about 86K hack attempts.

Can we not have a minor make over to this site's masthead?

I understand there's a plan in place for a while now to change the php
software and even a demo mode was shown for a while, though this was
a way back.

I was reminded about an alternative I tried in a bored 10 minutes some
time ago when I chanced upon a file made to play about and see...

I've just finished reading a rather lengthy thread on my ISP's forum regarding some disturbing news that has similarities (in fact has been suggested is the same in principle) to the Phorm fiasco. An utterly illegal and dispicable intrusion, IMO.

True, a VPN does add overhead, but a decent service should give you a minimal performance penalty. Web browsing on VyperVPN is not noticeably different. Download wise it's a bit slower, but much better than what VM hobble my connection to and still fast .

We've been getting more spammers than usual slipping past our state of the art spammer spotting system, mostly from spammers using free accounts such as gmail and yahoo.

Should we ban these outright in the new year?

Twice now I've discovered a PM in my outbox that failed to notify me when logging in.

I've now set email notification also but it too failed to announce new PM's.

With the current (newer) version of phpBB software running the forum, the advice below is no longer entirely applicable.

The forum will now rescale* oversize pictures to fit in the width of each user's browser window.

If you want your picture narrower than full page width, then you still need to use one of the methods below.

A simple captcha mod will work reasonably well.

It does not have to be too complicated, anything that makes the registration process non-default 'will' stop a lot of these.

Why ? , because they use scripts to automate filling the reg form. Anything extra that's required to pass this will stop / slow them down, its not worth their time (spammers...

Rather than have email addresses displayed openly in posts there is a button at the bottom of each members every post that activates your email client and sends to their address given when signing up.

It has come to our attention in this thread that at least some members are not able to see this button

Can you all vote for whether or not...
