Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

This started around the time of the most recent switchover to HTTPS.

Desktops are all unaffected, but on my phone as soon as I navigate away from the site I find I have to log back in on my return. So long as I leave the tab open and don't leave the site it seems fine - even overnight.

The FCF forum was down for some hours during the night.

This was due to a log file run-away that used all of the available disk space on the server.
The root cause is not yet known, but is not believed to be due to any recent changes to the server configuration. It could have been the result of some cyber attack on the site, or it could have been...

I often read posts and think 'if I knew whereabouts the poster lived I might be able to pop round and help/advise.' but frequently there is no location listed in the user profile.

I wonder if it would be possible to persuade users to add, say, just the first three digits of their postcode in their profile.

The site is now in secure mode again.

I have upgraded this site to use SSL encryption on all locally hosted content. This means that data flowing between your browser and this site (in both directions) is encrypted and cannot (in normal circumstances) be eaves-dropped.

On the front page and other pages you should see the secure padlock symbol...

Sometimes need to print out of few pages from the Forum.
No problem with graphics, photos, headers etc., but the simple body text of posts gets badly font-approximated/substituted for me.
Could someone identify the font in use, so I can install it, and get a decent text printout?

It's just this chunk of text (in blue) that's the problem....

The forum has been down for a couple of hours due to a database cache file corruption.

I don't know what caused it, and I have only taken the minimal steps to rebuild the cache at this time.

If the problem recurs, I will need to do a more complete cleaning of the database itself, but would rather not do that today.

Obviously that database was a final product from the Rover factories, if it could crash by itself. I had that error a few times as well. If you have a Citroen version installed do make sure to leave one small problem in it, otherwise it will get confused with being fully functional and crash anyway. :-D

Having issues logging in on Google Chrome, as I attempt login, it just goes back to the login page, asking for username and password (login details are correct - doesn't throw up the password incorrect message).

From now on, in order to maintain a clean user database on this forum, all accounts that are registered and activated but remain unused (i.e. not logged on to) will be deleted after a period of three months.

...yes I noticed my little picture of an Orangina H-Van went AWOL yesterday evening. Not through any activity on my part to my knowledge, and its probably quite difficult to inadvertently delete an avatar. Hardly ever go to my profile and do anything.

The latest Forum outage from late last night until today was caused once again by a failed Internet Connection to the old host servers.

Following the last outage of this nature a few days ago some contingency plans were made to guard against this eventuality. We did not expect that eventuality to happen quite so soon but it did.

Forum Bank Account Closure

Some five years ago now I opened a bank account for the BXC and FCF when it was anticipated the forums would have to be commercially hosted and regular payments and fundraising would be required to meet the costs.

Thankfully that never happened and since then the forums have enjoyed free hosting and very low running costs. As a result the forum...

Forum Routine Maintenance 22nd October

I shall be carrying out some routine maintenance on the forums in the early hours of Wednesday morning that may result in a short outage.

One of the tasks is to rotate the Apache Web Server logs which necessitates a restart of Apache.

I'm really quite staggered at their growth rate.. Shows how popular the forums are :)

The FCF Apache log grows like topsy. It was over 2GB in size :shock:

A few updates were applied to the server and again that'll now be a regular Wednesday job.

It'll be rotated at least weekly from now on under a cron job....

Unless you hear to the contrary I shall be moving the forum to a shiny brand-new server and upgrading the forum software to the latest version on the morning of the 1st October.

I shall also take the opportunity to repair the currently broken Tapatalk installation.

The new sever is indeed that, brand-spanking new and running 64 bit CentOS 7. It...

I have noticed it not working. Xac manages the smileys. Could be that we are on Jim's server and it isn't installed.

Following a long absence from this forum, our very own Rolf (aka :rofl2: ) has now returned :-D

He went into hiding in a very dark corner of the Internet back in April but after some diligent searching has now been found, given a good talking to and returned to his rightful place in the smilies folder.....

Is there anyway that a setting could be changed to allow more posts to be displayed in a thread at all or a switch that i could put into the URL so as to display more or an entire thread at all?

Hi not sure if there was a problem day before but clicked onto bookmark for here and wasn't logged in even and said permanently banned by IP address!
Hadn't logged in for while so thought odd as not done/said anything only think i could think of is if email was spamming but would have got told about that before or already by others and do check...

BXCF login issuses

for a few months now i have had trouble logging in to the BX forum,

i enter my login details then as it switch's from the login page to the index page in un/logs me,
most of the time i have been able to then click the home button at the top of the screen, then immediately go back to the BXC bookmarked link, click on this and without entering any...

Hi all,

We're back on-line but running on a contingency server restored using Friday backups so some stuff might be lost.

The normal production server has failed and as Xac is away for a week on holiday and could not resolve the problem remotely we took the decision to bring up the contingency which normally hosts the test forum.

It may not be...

Some time ago, on the advice of several forumites, I tried to send a PM to a senior member.
Wondering why I had heard nothing back, I went looking, only to find the message still in my outbox.
I must have misunderstood how to send messages, though I still can't figure out how to do it, having just tried again with no results

The PM is Citroen related, but of course the subject of PMs is not!
To be honest, I rarely look anywhere except Citroen on FCF and am inclined to forget about the rest of the scene.
The Citroen part of the site is reminiscent of the old Pajero forum and the IWAI forum before PCness went mad.
I enjoy the contributions even when not...
