can a height corrector have a null spot

Unread post by zorgman »

96 xantia 1.9td norm suspension
here we go
since i got the car in april this is what happens
start car and back end drops
leave car ticking over wont rise
move height lever to next setting and car lifts
move back norm and its at correct height
linkage all smooth moves up to full and to high
low to mid ok
low to norm back end just sits
high to norm drops to height
i know that it needs a new anti drop sphere but cant fathom out why it wont lift low to norm yet all others are ok

Forget about the a/s sphere.
You still have a simple mechanical problem with moving the HC's valve rod. The HC is a slide valve, and in principle will last forever as it does not contain wearparts. But external problems in the linkage like dirt & rust may make it stick in some positions.

Zorgman, if you look under the car where the rear height corrector is there should be a 40mm length of plastic with two sockets on it connecting the H/C to the rod connected to the anti roll bar, mine kept falling off but thanks to the a/s the supension stays up although somewhat bumpy. temporary fix is to turn the plastic bit round, the socket that fits over the ball on the h/c faces upwards and all the road crap gets in there and wears the plastic away, the socket onto the anti roll bar ball faces side ways and wears less, new one was about ?1.50 and 2 mins to fit.
