HDI Power steering pump

Post by volcane305 »

Hi all
My 01 110 xsara has been well behaved for a while after water temperature sensor replacement. Now a whining from the front right of the engine bay is evident. I thought it was the aux belt tensioner so first changed the spring loaded one, then changed the the lower guide pulley. Whining changed slightly in tone but got worse (at first was very subtle and could only be heard by me) Now it is very clear that the Power steering pump is the problem. I can source a 30,000 mile one for £40 but the pulley on the pump is a different diameter to my own 11.5 cm vs 12.5 cm on mine. Can I get away with the smaller pulley by using a shorter belt?? why the difference in pulley diameter.
Also I think the power steering pump is a problemon HDIs, can it be fixed?
Also car is not 3 until next June but has 73,000 miles would citroen do anything for me with the warranty[?]
