Xantia NSF suspension rattle

Post by nick »

Any ideas what this could be caused by? Its most noticeable when driving slowly (10-15 mph) over poor road surfaces.
I've changed both anti roll bar droplinks - no difference,
then I changed both the suspension bottom balljoints - still no difference ! The wishbone and wishbone bushes on that side are also relatively new following an argument with a BT van on a roundabout a couple of years ago[:(!]
Could it be the bushes on the anti-roll bar itself?
Regards,
Nick
PS, I took it to a 'Citroen Specialist' who said he can't even hear the noise I'm talking about, and can't see anything wrong under the car!

Check that the bolts at the back of the wishbone going up through the subframe are tight. Had something similiar after replacing the wishbone bushings.

What do your anti-roll bar bushes look like? Is it your hydraulic struts creaking? Are you missing the anti-rattle spring from the brake caliper?

Struts should be ok, I do grease them now and again & they seem pretty smooth. They anti rattle spring is present & correct. I'll certainly check the anti roll bar bushes and wishbone bolts, hopefully I should get chance at the weekend.
Thanks,
Nick

I had a rattle on mine that I eventually traced to a track rod end. Took a long time before play became apparent, and even then it could only be felt with the suspension on normal - put it in high and it went away. Reach around the back of the wheel and hold the whole joint whilst you get someone else to rock the wheel (road and / or steering) back and forth whilst you feel for play.

The track rod end is a distinct possibility, I have noticed a very slight tendancy for the car to drift to one side lately which started at about the same time the rattling started....
Kwik Fit didn't notice anything when I had the tracking adjusted recently, but, errm, then again Kwik Fit probably wouldn't, would they ? [:D]
