engine oil

Post by drpau »

Ive got a 2.0 hdi xsara and am due an oil change soon, i have got 5L bottle of diesel engine oil here, its Carlube triple R Turbo diesel semi synthetic 15w-40, its api ch-4, acea b3,b4,e3. Is this good enough to use in my HDi or should I just use it for my dads VX Combo van?
What do you resident experts think? Any tips appreciated....
thanks Paul

With its 12000 mile service interval, I believe fully synth oil is recommended for the HDI, but maybe if you left it in for only 6K it would be OK. But if you service both vehicles, I would keep it for the van.

Always use the quality the manufacturer recommends, in this case you've got a good semi-synth oil, it fulfills ACEA B3, E3 - to find out what this means, check out:
http://www.acea.be/ACEA/publications.html
then download "European Oil sequences 2002".
E3 is a pretty severe requirement, as you can read yourself!
I do a lot of work for Volvo trucks and they do NOT have the use of fully synthetic oils as a precondition for extending the length between oil changes.

The oil exceeds the specs given by citroen (in terms of api and acea) but they say it should be a 5w40 (as I remember), although it doesnt get that cold here maybe Ill just stick it in the Van!
