Project BX Broke already

Post by Jon »

Yes BX fans, after 2 days and 450 miles the water pump threw its toys out of the pram! Until repairs can be made, I have been relegated to 1989 LHD blue 2cv. Just driven 100 miles, I felt every one of them on a dark, cold rainy M4. [;)]
On the plus side, 2cv is working, and there is no coolant pissing out anywhere. [:)]

Oh Jon!
On the plus side it didn't knock the timing belt off and wreck the engine...
I bet you had the belt and water pump penciled in to do too!
Who's is the 2cv? At least you needn't worry about it's cooling system. Or much else.

Ah, the timing belt, water pump and a clutch were most definately pencilled in for a week Saturday when I'd arranged to borrow a ramp at my mate's garage for the day.
As we were short of time, and a car, Mr Louis Barbour is carrying out the water pump/timing belt, but as I turned up as his place unannounced, all he could give me was the 89 LHD 2cv which he assures me is up to the job, certainly it did Gt Missenden to Swindon via Gerrads X no problems. I actually very much like 2cv's, and they are in their purest form in LHD. What I had forgotten was the wind noise etc. Still, this one seems to go very well indeed and didn't give me any cause for concern this evening. I'll drive it up to Birmingham tomorrow. Its good for it.
PS Dave, your 205 doesn't actually work but the 2cv does.

Ah, well, do enjoy the 2cv [;)]
Until recently, my only transport was a '73 LHD 2cv4 (435cc). A wonderful vehicle, the great thing with it was, it never really went fast enough for the wind noise to be a problem ... the Dyane is the answer tho, but shame it hasn't a trafficlutch [:(]

The thing with 2CV's is that they leak coolant (air) all the time . . . . !
(someone is now bound to point out that the A-series engines are actually oil-cooled, so I'll say it myself instead)

I've had problems with a 2CV water pump.
Never could get the screen clean.

Sorry to hear it Jon. Louis will doubtless make a good job of it. Often the way with a recommissioned car, though. I remember being told by an independent specialist that if aBX had been sitting for three months or more, walk away. We are made of sterner stuff but this is one to be philosophical about; after all, the car should now last a long time.

You have perhaps had a little bad luck there Jon, still once you finally sort the thing it should last a few years without trouble, my own BX Ebay car is just about coming together, this week I replaced rear arm bearings, one rear caliper (inboard piston siezed totally)repacked rear wheel bearings (grease turned to cheese, moved away from races!)got the ventilation fan working properly(Thanks Tomsheppard) and am currently running Hydraflush, I also took the opportunity to lower the ride height as it was sitting way too tall. As an extra I have also fitted a scoop on the bonnet forcing cold air directly onto the intercooler.still havent had the courage to play with the fuelling/wastegate though. ah these project vehicles.
