C5 longer than XM and CX!!!

Post by Thunderbird »

Citroens are getting bigger. Take a look at the length over the generations (values in meters):
BX - 4.23 (same length of a VW Golf)
Xantia mk1 - 4.44
Xantia mk2 - 4.52
C5 mk1 - 4.62
C5 mk2 - 4.75
CX - 4.66
XM - 4.71

It is happening to all cars!
The latest Mondeos are bigger than those old Granada estates that used to seem huge!

Yes, but roads and parking areas, mainly in the city, are not following that increasing in size...

Do European cars begin to look like the American monsters???? ....
Perhaps, EU car manufacturers feel they should expand their businesses to the U.S.!

Wrong!
the King is the 15/6 familiale with 4,96m and 3,27 wheelbase! (if one does not consider the 22 V8 model)

When I used the term 'King' I was not refering to the length of the car...

The increase in size is a bit of a shame really as it was one of the factors that persuaded me to keep by BX TD estate for several more years rather than buy a Xantia estate (189inches Xantia, 173 in BX - no less than 16 inches or about 400 mm!)
This of course leaves out the weight which is up by about 250 kg as well. I know there is the ZX/Xara but well I like my hydraulic suspension.

Forget the length,
lets talk wheelbase length. the DS is 124inches. Betcha the C5 has gone and put ugly/non functional big overhangs both ends. Look at the DS, GS, CX, BX and Xantia, they all look strange as the wheels are right in the back corners (leading to better handling, better ride comfort).
Another thing that makes the CX and DS a right b@stard to get up onto full length car ramps and car trailers is the back track of the car is substantially narrower than the front. This means you need very wide ramps to get the car up high.

mmmmm The SM, Thunderbird, don't say you have one of these spectacular motorcars?
I have only seen one and that was on Madeira. I wanted one ever since they came out in the early '70's, never had the money or chance. I would love to get a ride in one, one day.
