Reduced accelleration

Post by citrofan »

My 98 XM 2.oi CT turbo auto accellerates suddenly very slow. especially from stop. I have changed spark plugs and air filter and cleaned secondary airvalve. The fuel/ignition syatem tell-tale light comes on when starting for about 10 seconds and than dissapears. No alarms showing.
Once the car has a bit of speed I don't have this problem any more. Kick-down works OK.
Any suggestions where to look?

I think it could be lamda sensor or problematic catalyst / exhaust ...

If a turbo car suddenly feels slow, then suspect a stuck open wastegate valve.
As you get the ECU fault lamp on, you can get the fault code read out. It may show a faulty sensor on engine.

Thanks Anders,
Where can I locate the Wastegate valve?

I have no idea [:I]
It's a mechanical small flap that lets out the air from turbo's pressure (engine intake) side.
Usually it's on the turbo itself - prone to rust because of the heat.
