Help, Timing belt problem

Post by Peter_L_1959 »

Hi!
I have changed waterpump and when I put the timing belt back I got problems. When I try to run the engine by hand (on the crankshaftbolt by a tool) something stops the engine.
I have used bolts in the camshaft pulley timing hole 7 a’clock

and a bolt in the crankshaft pulley timing hole at 11 a’clock as the instruction says but something is wrong.

The engine stops when the crankshaft pulley timing hole is at 11 a’clock and 4 a’clock.

If I move the timing belt at the camshaft pulley, I can run the engine a 360 degree. By that reason I guess some valve and a piston meets.
I can’t understand what I do wrong, please help me.
The engine is a XU10, 2.0 8v TCT.

The pistons seem to be meeting the open valves. Could you have the crankshaft 180 degrees out?

Peter,
Have a read of this thread started by Shane who had similar problems with his 2.0 8V Xantia:

Did you check the pins could be fitted before you took the old belt off?

Different problem.
I couldn't pin the cam pulley. In his case the harmonic balancer will have rotated on it's rubber bush. The only fix is to replace the crankshaft pulley. If you pull it off and scrutinize it you will see the rubber seperates the out part of the pulley from the inne part.
